Rickmansworth IV v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 15 May 2021 at 12.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 1 over

Match report Huge thanks to Rickmansworth for preparing the ground so we could at least get a game in despite the heavy rain during the week. The game was moved to their astro and shortened to 32 overs.

3s won the toss and based on the weather outlook for the afternoon inserted Rickmansworth to bat on an astro that needed to be retired to the "knacker's yard".

Rick started off very slowly struggling to make any meaningful connections with the ball, the line and pace of Myring and Halai kept them guessing and in some discomfort. 3s continued to place pressure in the field with the 1st wicket falling in the 1st over to a fabulous 2nd slip catch taken by Hardik. At the 12 over stage Rick had only struggled to 32 for 1 and were continuing to swing and miss like an aged baseball player with poor eyesight. By over 20 the score had only reached 63 for 4, continued excellent bowling from Myring and young Shah kept the pressure on with a superb swooping catch from Halai at square leg and low diving catch from Gordy at mid off forcing Rick into frustration. A very damp outfield kept the boundaries at a ration forcing Rick to take risky singles. A sublime piece of fielding gave Myring his first run-out of the season and the screws continued to tighten. Rick's innings closed at 109 for 8 off the allotted 32 overs due to tail end tight bowling from Gordy and Suki both picking up a wicket each.

3s openers Akshar and Hardik started well , a manageable run rate of 3.5 an over saw the score grow to 26 off the 1st 8 overs. Rick's opening bowlers maintained a tight line but the opening combination of experience and aggression kept the boat steady early on. The wet outfield continued to prevent boundaries and the top order were forced into playing aerial shots to clear the close in field. Abs batted beautifully and kept the run rate ticking along, after departing on 17, the run chase was left to Lal and Cijine. Cijine's power hitting 3 boundaries and a superbly timed 6 kept the 3s well in control, Lal supported at the other end by rotating the strike and by over 28 we were 3 runs within striking distance. The winning runs were struck by batting prodigy Keeran in the 31st over and even though Rick felt a sniff of a chance the resilience of the 3s shone through.

Well done team ! Despite a low scoring game we proved to ourselves how we can win and control the game. Keep going, season is still young and are opponents will come back strong against us.
