Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Rickmansworth IV on Sat 17 Jul 2021 at 12.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 127 runs

Match report On our 1st sweltering day of the summer, the might 3s took on nearby rivals Rickmansworth. 3s won the toss and decided to bat.

Lal and Tushar opened the batting and after an initial wobble, Lal playing over in in-swinging delivery clipping the bottom of leg stump, Tushar and Jay pressed the pedal and blasted away at Rickmansworth the opening bowlers. At the 1st drinks break (15 overs) 3s were 50 for 1. Post drinks 3s lost 2 quick wicket in succession, Jay falling to well placed yorker and Tushar playing over a low pitching delivery. Rickmansworth felt an opening was coming their way but had not counted on the duo of Cijine and Hardik, initially both played sensibly to steady the ship and by the 25th over had the score over 100 runs, hitting and timing the ball well and finding the boundaries to keep the score ticking along at 4 to 5 an over. Cijine fell after a superb 45 and Hardik a game changing 35. Young Kishan flashed hard and was caught for 8, allowing Saahil and Arav to express themselves in the last 7 overs and both adding another valuable 48 runs to the total. 3s finished on 207 and were able to bat the full quota of 40 overs.

After a much needed refreshment break ( I will be banning certain players from ordering pizza if they can't control their digestion systems - LOL !) 3s took the field and what has been our mainstay of bowling and fielding continued unabated. Opening bowlers Rudra and Arav placed significant pressure on the opening partnership stifling runs and skimming past the outside edge on multiple occasions leaving Rickmansworth trailing after 10 overs at 25 for 2. A tactical bowling change bought in Het and JB to slow down the pace and both were well deserving of a wicket each. Based on previous week's performance the guile and skill of Hardik was introduced after the drinks break. Hardik bamboozled and twisted the ball like serpent wrapping itself around its prey. Hardik wrapped up the middle and tail in 4 overs (4 wickets) and was assisted by Lal (2 wickets) who was showcasing his talent as the next generation of sub-continent spinners.

Rickmansworth tumbled to 80 all out in the 25th over. A well deserved and professionally fought win - onwards chaps..... Pakora Pakora Pakora !
