Match report Round 13 of the Herts League Regional Division C West saw Northwood Town 4’s face off against League Leaders Chorleywood 4’s, in an eagerly awaited return fixture after they narrowly bettered us earlier in the season.

Town were prepared this time and knew what to expect from the wiley old Chorleywood boys. The day started well with skipper Shaw winning the toss on what looked like a damp wicket after some overnight rain. Opening the bowling for Town were Amriwala; making his league debut and U Butt. Both were very disciplined and the wicket turned out to play excellently. Amriwala bowled great lines using the slope to aid his inswing bowling collecting figures of 4 wickets for 19 runs from his 8 overs.

The Town change bowlers all bowled very well with a brace for each of the colts; Kumar and Cadman. Chorleywood never really got going, scoring a very gettable 114. Town took their catches and fielded exception well. Vice Captain Firfire even put his body on the line trying to save a boundary; only to bitten on his derriere by a spectators dog. The following morning spent in A&E updating jabs and medication was not time well spent.

The Town 4’s were glad to welcome back Jay Patel from his brief sojourn in the 3’s. Patel opened the batting with Javaid and batted aggressively. Runs were scored, chances were given but Chorleywood just could not hold onto them. James Rich came in at 3 and continued the free flowing run making. The top 3 put on 81 after 22 overs with should have put the game to bed. The cricketing Gods had other plans. A quick session of wickets and Town found themselves on 110-6. Jitters and nerves had set in. A bandaged up Firfire came out to bat and calmed U Butt down on the other end. We just had to wait for the bad ball. It came and the Firfire scored the winning to cap off a fantastic victory against the best team in the league.
