Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Bishop's Stortford II on Sat 07 May 2022 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 142 runs

Match report Northwood Town welcomed Bishop’s Stortford II at home in the season opener this week. With bit of rain in the morning and wet outfield Town won the toss and chose to field first.

Kieron P and Jack D started very well for Town often beating the batsman’s outside and inside edges but BS II (Bishop’s Stortford) openers batted with cautious building partnership. After 23 in 8 overs Kieron P picked up his 1st wicket for Town’s first team by dismissing M pike. Some poor ground fielding (except for excellent run out by Iqbal A, great one-handed catch by Andy B at gully and another great one-handed catch by Krunal P fielding with one hand) and some dropped catches meant BS II batters continued to build small partnerships. In particular Maddison and Furrer playing good knocks of 43 and 37 respectively. Pick of the bowlers for Town were Veer V (45/3), Kieron P (36/2) and Iqbal A (43/2). BS II set Town target of 198 and on a pitch which was drying off and playing nicely it looked like a target that could be chased.

However, when Town went out to bat it was anything but easy to bat on and all the credit goes to BS II opening bowlers. Wickets kept tumbling regularly and Town batters struggled to put any runs on the board. Hopefully this is the shortest batting report you’ll read this season. With an Amazing spell which included a hat-trick M Pike tore through Town batting with match figures of 10-2-26-5. Only bright spark for Town was Mikhil P with the score of 25 but no one was able to build partnership with him at the other end. Town ended their miserable inning with 55 all out losing by 142 runs.

Town Skipper KP spoke after the game: “Really tough day at the office and we were outplayed in all 3 departments by Bishop’s Stortford! We really need to work on our fielding and batting and come back stronger next week. It was a first game of the season so no need to be too harsh on ourselves. I have no doubts boys will bounce back next week with better performance!

Northwood Town 1’s will travel away to play Hitchin II next week.
