Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Luton Town & Indians II on Sat 11 Jun 2022 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 56 runs

Match report Town welcomed Luton Town & Indians II (LT&I) looking to bounce back again after last week’s defeat. With hot sunny weather Town skipper had no hesitation winning the toss batting first.

Town lost R Aggarwal early leaving them 16/1 after 4 overs. S Modi also got out cheaply while N Madhavan opening for Town looked like was batting on a different wicket with shots all around the ground. At 33/3 after 10 over in-form I Anjum walked in and continued his fine run with the bat. Together N Madhavan and I Anjum put on 83 runs partnership in just 15 overs. N Madhavan passing his 50 with a lovely flick of his pads. At that stage it looked like Town were going to post a very strong total. But N Madhavan departed after a fine inning of 63 (50 of those coming in boundaries). This led to a mini middle order collapse where batters struggled to get going and run rate started to drop. After 41 overs Town were on 161/7 and even 200 was looking far. I Anjum tried to increase the run rate but getting out for 40, inning which helped Town build a platform for a big score. But just when Town needed it the most M Patel and Kieron P built a great partnership. M Patel who was in the hot water with the skipper after arriving late for the game showed his class which included trademark lofted 6’s over long off while Kieron P was quick to punish any lose deliveries. Together they put on 57 runs in 7 overs before both departed (M Patel scoring 37 and Kieron P with 27). Skipper K Patel played a good cameo in the end as Town finished on 237/10 in 50 overs.

Despite a good batting wicket and small boundaries Town were confident of defending the total. However LT&I batters had other plans. Runs were easy to come by with pace on the ball and Town. Despite an early breakthrough by Kieron P LT&I were on 63/1 in 10 overs. With 4 spinners it played in Town’s hands as Skipper K Patel came on with I Anjum looking to put the breaks on. If there was a time skipper needed to come on and deliver a good spell today was the day and luckily that was the case. With tight line and length LT&I batters struggled to build any momentum. K Patel bowled superbly with spell of 10-2-24-2 while as always, I Anjum was class with his 10 overs going only for 37/1 and he was unlucky after a drop catch in that spell. After 30 overs LT&I were 121/4. But it still could have gone either way but J Halai leading wicket taker for the team came on and made sure there was no come back. Nagging line & length with tempting flight meant LT&I batters struggled to put him away and yet again for the 2nd game in a row he was on a hattrick (although we will not talk about the rank hattrick ball). N Madhavan on the other bowled tight and unlucky not to get a wicket with a drop catch. J Halai finished with match figures of 32/6 continuing his amazing bowling performance. LT&I finished on 181 all out.

Town Skipper K Patel spoke after the game: Today we had so many great individual performances with N Madhavan leading with the bat and J Halai with the bowl. In the end it was a well-deserved comfortable win for the Team. Skipper on his bowling performance: It has been a bit of a struggle this season with inconsistency but hopefully after today I am able to put few good performances together. Shout out to M Patel for his wonderful inning but joint man of the match award goes to N Madhavan and J Halai!!

Town will travel to Old Haberdasher next week.
