Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Cheshunt Rosedale on Sat 25 Jun 2022 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 25 runs
Match report
Town welcomed Cheshunt Rosedale looking to keep the winning momentum going. Having rained overnight and in the morning Town skipper wanted to field first however Cheshunt won the toss instead and put Town into bat.
Opening the batting Vadgama made sure T Shah learning to score for the first time was not troubled at all and departed for a quack…quack…quack. Debutant Vedd also got out early leaving Town on 7/2 in 3 overs. However just when it looked like Cheshunt were on top Aggarwal continued from last week and started smashing them all around the ground. It would be easy to copy and paste match summary from last week to describe Aggarwal’s aggressive approach. In particular he brutally dispatched anything pitched short. While Modi at the other end played a perfect supportive inning which also included scoring runs quickly and all around the ground. Together they started putting on a very quick partnership and both passed their 50s in the process. Once Aggarwal passed his 50 he changed the gears and reached a big mile stone of a ton in next 10 overs. If there is 1 in-form batter at Town right now, it’s Aggarwal and he’s cashing it in! His teammates were going mental on the balcony when Aggarwal reached 100 which was a clear evident of an unbelievable knock he played. Cheshunt fielders were also applauding a truly outstanding inning. Aggarwal and Modi put on a partnership of 168 in just 28 overs. At this stage it looked like Town were targeting 300+ runs but wickets tumbled as Town started to play their shots. Modi departing after a fine inning of 58 and Aggarwal finally getting out having scored 126. Few lusty blows towards the end from Verma ensured Town finished their inning 270 all out in 48.3 overs.
Although it looked a big total rapid outfield and dry pitch was always going to challenge Town bowlers. Cheshunt batters came out firing all cylinders. Opening the batting Holly was throwing his hands at everything and any lose deliveries started disappearing to the boundary. Although Daly removed Cheshunt skipper Richardson runs were still easy to come by. Skipper came on early trying to take the pace off the ball and slow the run rate. It worked as bounce and turn meant Cheshunt were struggling to keep up with the asking rate. However steady partnership between Grant and Mcgreevey meant Town were also in danger of letting it slip out of the hands. But after Town’s strike bowler Aggarwal went off injured Modi was asked to come and bowl. Some said he was still having nightmares from his 1 over spell at Tewin and questioned whether it was the right decision or not? But if Cheshunt thought they had a slight chance of chasing the target Modi made sure it was not the case. Despite not picking up a wicket he bowled 6 overs spell giving away only 16 runs! Vadgama removed danger looking Grant and the victory for Town was in touching distance. S Modi coming back on for his 2nd spell ran through Cheshunt lower order picking up 4 wickets and finishing with 30/4 from his 10 overs. Cheshunt getting all out for 245. Credit also goes to J Daly who bowled a superb death over spell but Modi was the best bowler on the day.
Town skipper spoke after the game: Aggarwal is a run machine and we hope he continues in that form for rest of the season! That inning deserved 30 points!!! And when things were not going their way in the field Modi delivered a devastating spell to make sure Town got over the line.
Next week Town will travel to Southgate Adelaide!!
