Southgate Adelaide v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 02 Jul 2022 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 1 wicket

Match report Town 1’s travelled to Southgate Adelaide (SA) looking to keep their winning run going. Winning the toss Town decided to bat first on what looked like an absolute road with short & lightning quick outfield.

As usual Aggarwal and Madhavan started very positively and runs started flowing. Aggarwal yet again continuing his superb form with the bat punishing any lose deliveries. Madhavan at the other end was also looking in an excellent touch and things were looking were good for town. Aggarwal departed after a good inning of 40 and put together a partnership of 88 with Madhavan in just 17 overs. Madhavn reached his 50 with a fine square drive continuing his fine run of form with the bat! Vedd was looking in fine touch before a bad knee injury ended his stay at the crease! Shortly after that Madhvana got out trying to keep aggressive approach going. Modi yet again showed his value at no 4 by re-building Town inning. And despite no one from the middle order supporting him he made his way to another 50. That was back-to-back 50 for Town’s most consistent no 4 ever! And despite being in a strong position Town folded to 233 all out.

SA batters started with positive intent and town fielding with 10 knew they had to work even harder to get over the line. There was an early breakthrough from Vadgama leaving SA on 29/1 after 8 overs which became 70/2 in a8 over after a good run out by skipper Patel. However SA’s no 2 batter Leithbridge was playing a superb inning and kept going at 1 end passing his 50. Madhavan’s introduction bought 2 wickets in an over leaving SA on 88/4 in 23 overs. However 84 run 6th wicket partnership brought SA back in the game. Vadgama coming back for his 2nd spell took 2 wickets to bring town back in the game. Despite having lot of overs left SA were beginning to lose wickets. Daly removed Leithbridge shortly after he passed his 100. Verma bowling death overs got a wicket with beautifully bowled yorker to leave Town just needing 1 wicket with 2 runs to win. Skipper Patel bowling to no 11 had everyone inside the ring and as planned flighted a ball to tempt him to go over the top. He duly obliged and bowl was heading towards mid on where a misjudged drop meant SA ran 2 to win by 1 wicket.

K Patel spoke after the game: Yes, we should have scored more than 233 but still had enough runs to defend. Obviously fielding with 10 men was not easy but effort of every individual to keep going till last run/wicket was commendable. Proud of the boys the way stuck to it and with couple of things here or there it easily could have gone our way but it wasn’t to be.

Town travel to Bishop’s Stortford II next week in a crunch game at the top of the table.
