Watford Town V v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 09 Jul 2022 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report On a belter of a day, NTCC 4s travelled to Watford. The sun was shining, the outfield was cut to a trim and the 4s were hungry for a win. 4s captain lost the loss, having discussed earlier at much length whether to call heads or tails, he changed his mind as the coin tumbled from the heavens. Opposition decided to bat and take advantage of the fresh new wicket.

Opening strike bowling attack of Cadman and Thomas immediately got stuck into the top order both taking wickets in their opening spells. Both openers bowled superbly and with such accuracy that the lost toss seemed a distant memory. Myring replaced Cadman after 4 overs and continued to apply pinpoint bowling pressure picking up 2 fabulous wickets in his spell. In the field the 4s resembled Jonty Rhodes nephews with amazing catches by JB in the slips adding to the pressure of a low scoring run rate. The opposition were forcing shots that were unnatural and giving us plenty of opportunities to take wickets. Just before drinks, skipper changed the pace and bought on the guile of young Vivek. His first 4s game this season and a great start for him, bowling 5 overs and giving away only 17 runs but missing the outside edge he was unlucky not to get wickets. After drinks the Wisden spin bowling legend of the Hertforshire league JB flighted into action. JB confused the batsmen with his line, length and altitude deliveries, at one point the batsmen was asking the wicket keeper how to play the maestro JB...LOL ! At the other end young Jaineel had a brief outing and both spinners enjoyed a wicket apiece. It appeared at one point the opposition would roll for less than a hundred but a short middle order late flurry pushed the score along. Cadman and Thomas were bought back in to wrap up the innings. Both stemmed the run flow and forced the batsmen into errors. An attempted quick single to gully saw our wicketkeepeer run, pick-up, swivel in the air, throw and knock-out middle stump leaving the No.9 batsman aghast and distraught. The innings ended in the 40th over with a meager 121 total.

After a DIY tea under the trees, 4s started the run chase. Openers JB and Sam fended off the left arm pace and fought gallantly against the off spin attack from the other end. Both were watchful and avoided taking unnecessary risks in the low scoring run chase. After 10 overs the score was 33 with the opposition bowling wides and no bowls to help the run rate. Both openers fell in quick succession and this bought in skipper Lal at No.4 to take stock and continue the charge of the 4s brigade. Usman fell to a great caught and bowled opportunity from the off spinner and this bought in young Jaymin onto the square. The next 18 overs can only be described as pure genius. Jaymin flayed the bowling left, right and centre striking one of the opposition's pace bowlers twice back over his head towards the boundary. Lal at the other end kept the runs flowing pulling and hooking at every opportunity but also running hard and keeping the pressure on the fielding side. At one point Jaymin wanted to run 3 but the maturer legs of Lal were just not interested. Jaymin fell in the 29th over having contributed to the backbone of the innings with 29. Lal fell the next over to what can only be described as a "nothing delivery" having scored 38, both batsmen forging ahead and ensuring the mighty 4s were within earshot of the finishing line. The final rites were read by Cadman smashing 2 boundaries with 8 overs to spare - great to see the youngster showing such flare and maturity at the crucial end of the game.

Chaps....there was alot of unecessary verbage being spouted by the opposition as we had expected, once again our cricket and professionalism won the day. RESPECT !
