West Herts VI v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 23 Jul 2022 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 1 ball

Match report Another belter of a day saw NTCC 4s head back to West Herts for the 2nd round match in the division. NTCC won the toss and inserted the opposition on what appeared to be a placid dry wicket.

Once again the bowling and fielding were outstanding, the usual trait for the 4s. Keep the opposition pinned down with excellent ground fielding, tight bowling lines and catalyse the batsmen's frustration into wickets. The opening trio of Myring, Maaz and Thomas all picked up 2 well deserved wickets each, supported by excellent catches from the slip maestro JB, the solid hands of Dhiren and Thomas. The opposition's umpires struggled to count to 6 when calling the overs but apart from the lack of basic maths skills, the batsmen did very little to trouble the scorers. At one point we thought we may roll them for less than a hundred. However one of their youngsters put up a solid fight only to be stumped reaching for Deadly Dhiren Delivery. The innings ended in the 35th over on a score of 126 all out.

After a cheerful tea, NTCC 4s launched into the "3 runs per over" chase. The openers stumbled early pushing too hard for runs against some innocuous bowling but tight bowling. At 22 for 2 the target started to appear a tougher challenge than originally planned. Newly purchased Hardik at No.3 started to shows signs of aggression punishing one of the opening quicks back over his head for a straight boundary. No.4 Lal held the batten at the other end to stabilise the fall of wickets. Both were undone by LBW appeals going against the batsmen. At No.5 Jaymin entered the breech to lay siege and with his usual master blasting techniques set about the demolition of the score. A masterful, composed and well judged batting performance saw partnerships with Jaineel (11), Thomas (14) and Myring (16) to ease 4s over the winning line with 1 ball to spare.

Well....what can I say, other than an absolutely brilliant bowling/fielding performance to restrict an opposition that has previously scored 150+, a mature and measured batting performance from the middle and lower order...wow !! A fantastic win against an opposition who started to whine and whinge as they saw themselves slowly losing grip over the game. Massively proud of your performance, I even had a tear in my eye, when the winning runs were smashed....onwards, only 2 wins away from potential promotion.
