Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Tewin on Sat 24 Jun 2023 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 72 runs
Match report
Town welcomed Tewin at home skipper K Patel’s first game back of the season. Winning the toss Town decided to bat first.
As usual Aggarwal and Madhavan got off to fiery start with Aggarwal in-particular being the aggressor. However one shot to many and he lost his wicket with Town on 27/1. Due to unforeseen circumstances Vadgama walked in ahead of Loomba to bat at 3. Him and Madhavan started building a great partnership with lovely shots all around the ground and some dodgy calling/running. And then the pair were involved in 3rd run out between them in last 2 weeks. Madhavan hitting it straight at cover and running for a single only to realise there was no run and was run out. He departed after fine inning of 39 and failed to convert a good start. Town as so often collapsed with middle order of Loomba, Anjum and Gairola departed without troubling the scorer much. Vadgama was just stuck at one end and was quickly running out of the partners. And frustration of losing wickets led to him giving easy catch to mid wicket. Yet again Vadgama departed for 40 and failed to capitalise on good start. Gordhandas batting at 8 had to come off injured after pulling his hamstring and Lawrence fell for a duck. This effectively left Town on 142/8 and in deep trouble. Skipper K Patel walked to the crease and built 25 runs partnership with M Patel to get Town back in to the game. But skipper departed and Daly started to build partnership with M Patel who was batting beautifully. M Patel had the right balance between attack and defence and was playing shots all around the pitch. After Daly departed Gordhandas wasn’t done and came back out with a runner to support Patel and Town ended up on 211 all out when Gordhandas got out. M Patel left stranded on 48* inning which deserved half century but no one could support him. However, Town tail enders yet again showed they are more than capable with the bat!
On a slow outfield this was always going to be a tough chase however Tewin openers started aggressively. Town’s seamers failed to build any pressure and despite Daly removing dangerous opener Lipschitz Tewin raced to 50/1 after 10 overs. Double change from both ends meant Anjum and Vadgama came in the attack and between the pairs next 12 overs went for just 13. Both Anjum and Vadgama got a wicket and Tewin were struggling against slow pace and spin. After Vadgama’s tidy spell skipper Patel came on and to everyone’s surprise was on the money from ball 1. Big turn and bounce meant he was always going to be difficult to play and he chipped away at Tewin middle order and helped himself to 35/5 in 9 over spell. Anjum finished his brilliant spell with 19/1 from his 10 and was unlucky not to pick up more wickets. Madhavan came on and picked up 2 quick wickets dismissing Tewin for 139 all out. Town winning by 72 runs.
K Patel spoke after the game: Gordhandas is an example of great characters that fight for this team. Being on 1 leg not only he went out to bat but also fielded and took 2 brilliant catches. Overall very pleased with the performance but yet again our middle
Order failed something we need to address and work on. On his performance: great to be back with the lads out there and help team get the win. Definitely earned the right to wear those blue shoes for few more games!
Town will travel to London Colney.
