West Herts III v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 03 Jun 2023 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 108 runs
Match report
Town's 2's turned up to West Hert's away game in a quaint little part of hertfordshire, on a sunny day and came onto a good surface with the outfield baked dry by the consistent British Sun and unusually, a 15 metre leg side boundary.
Having all gathered and done some warm ups, including fielding and catching, Town headed out for the toss and were put to bowl first with West Hert's 3's putting a score for Town to chase. Opening the bowl for Town was Pratik Patel and Sajid, bith starting well with Pratik frustrating the opener and eventually forcing a loose shot from the opposition opener, straight to mid-off for a simple catch. Pratik's bowling efforts were rewarded with Town making that early breakthrough through a catch from Cijine to push the opposition on the back foot. Town continued to bowl well but the opposition's batsmen did well to push back with their number 2 and 3 scoring well, pushing with some great running and some good boundaries, picking their total back up despite their early loss. The introduction of Jesant Halai to the crease helped encourage the magic that Town can do with the ball with Jesant finding his feet pretty quickly and dispatching the two batsmen from West Herts who had put on a 70 run partnership, the first wicket being a great stumping from Tushar and then straight after drinks, a great bowled to bring in West hert's next batsmen. However, their number 4 had come out to bat with a vengeance and after initially taking time to get used to the pitch, he had starting dispatching all of Town's bowlers for boundaries, making good use of the shorter boundary against short deliveries and playing some fantastic cover drives, taking the West hert's innings deep and scoring 72 before he was eventually bowled out by P.Patel. Batting around this batsmen were a couple of older batters, who came in and chipped in with a 30 and a 27 to take West Herts to a very strong score of 241 - 5 after 40 overs.
A tea break out of the burning sun and Town set loose to attack this target with Jesant Halai, opening the batting with Bijendra. Both played their shots and took Town to a strong start with Bijendra hitting 3 quick boundaries before chipping a delivery straight back to the bowler. Jesant continued to bat and score a quick 50 before being caught mis-timing a loose delivery and wickets started to fall for Town. Cijine and Abdullah kept a short partnership for a while but neither could get into their groove and both were soon dismissed via catches and so Town started to collapse as batsmen kept getting dismissed for catches. Town's gradual drop of wickets saw the 2's reach a total of 133 - 10 for 29.4 overs as Town fell well short of the target and gifting a win to West Herts.
A lot to ponder, especially from the batting side of things but onto next week!
