Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Letchmore on Sat 17 Jun 2023 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 66 runs

Match report On a bright and warm day, NTCC 3s hosted fellow league challengers Letchmore to Chestnut Avenue. Opposition captain lost the toss and skipper Lal had no hesitation in deciding to bat first.

Our early order batting floundered again this week with the top order batsmen being dismissed before the 1st drinks break at 15 overs. The bowling at both ends was at most times tight but we failed to capitalise on the bad balls. Pradip was caught at short cover brilliantly a few inches off the ground, Lal was caught at 1st slip to a wildly twisting leg break and young Sageeran's off stump bail was clipped by an pacey off cutter. Our hero of the story was the star of the 4s in the 2022 season, Jaymin Patel. Today Jaymin was Dravid..'esque in his composure and punishment of the ball. Jaymin played serenely and kept the scoreboard moving with quick running and several lusty boundary shots. Jaymin was partnered with Ravi who played superbly and kept the pressure from the other end , I felt Ravi could have also gone on to make a big score as the pair were trying to outhit each other ! Together they took the score over 100 in 31st over and the signature end of innings barrage from Ganesh (20) pushed the score to a defendable 156. Huge credit to Jaymin (54 not out) for his patience and timing of his innings. A match winning half century and we are certain to be delighted by more similar innings as the season progresses.

Bowling......wow ! what can I say....another superb bowling and fielding display by the mighty 3s.....Thomas picking up 2 well deserved wickets in his first spell. Meet bowled with precision and earned himself 3 scalps whilst youngster and Bollywood superstar wannabe Pradip wrapped up the innings by grabbing 4 quick wickets in his short spell. Fielding was top quality, Akshar diving around at mid wicket preventing the partnerships from building, excellent catches by Ravi and Ganesh just when we need the pressure to be switched back...and if I maybe so bold much cleaner keeping behind the stumps to keep the extras out of the equation.

Overall a clinical performance, once again the team spirit and camaraderie was the oil in the engine that allowed us to cross the finishing line within 25 overs. Onwards, let's keep working on the fitness and fielding, the oppositions will start to get tougher.
