Eastcote CC v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 20 Apr 2024 at 12:30 p.m.
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 138 runs

Match report Town began their 2024 cricket season with a local derby match against Eastcote, amidst one of the wettest and dampest springs on record. Despite the challenging conditions, Eastcote presented a beautiful hard pitch, a rarity for this time of year.

Winning the toss, Town elected to field on a typical April day with a mix of sun, dark clouds, and winds. Opening bowlers Malik and P Patel started with decent lengths, but after a few overs, Eastcote's openers began to free their arms. Despite a couple of dropped catches, they quickly reached 50 in 10 overs.

A bowling change saw John and Shah being introduced, resulting in a quick couple of wickets. Eastcote's No. 3 applied himself well, building small partnerships as wickets fell at regular intervals but each wicket yielded a small partnership, propelling Eastcote to a healthy total of 209 for the loss of 9 wickets in their 40 overs.

It was a commendable bowling outing overall, with fine performances from John, Pandey, and Kayani. Making his debut, J Patel took four good catches in the outfield.

After a delightful tea (yes, you heard it right), Town's openers began the run chase. Unfortunately, skipper Ramawat fell in the 1st over to young P Patel, who bowled with good pace and control. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with the only notable innings coming from veteran P Pandey (24), who had an excellent all-round outing, not only bowling well but also spending crucial time in the middle.

Town ultimately lost the game by 139 runs. While not the desired result, given the lead-up with many games getting cancelled due to bad weather, it was great to be on the field playing the game we all love. Many thanks to Eastcote for hosting us and for the excellent tea. We take the learnings from this game into the next one.
