Luton Town & Indians III v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 11 May 2024 at 01:00 p.m.
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report After persistent wet weather, finally the sun came out. However, due to exceptional wet weather, Town's own ground was not ready to host the season opener. As a result, the game was moved to Rectory Park.

The day and weather were set for a perfect game of cricket, but it was also evident that it was going to be a tough day where all the runs would have to be 'run hard' due to the thick outfield.

Town lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. The new ball was shared between Shah and Agarwal, who both bowled well. Shah clocked the pace and Agarwal presented immaculate control, resulting in LTI 25/1 in 10 overs. Bowling change & John was handed the ball, given the helpful conditions, boy did he not exploit them well! John blew apart the LTI batting lineup with his clever bowling, making full use of the help on offer - a masterclass on 'How to bowl when too much assistance is available'. John ended with figures of 8-2-13-5. Later towards the end, Puwar and junior Pate cleared the LTI tail with 71 on the board.

After a 30-minute break, Town set about the chase knowing very clearly that it was going to be a tough and strange chase. Gairola and Vaghela set the stall and found it hard to put the ball beyond the inner circle as they would do in their sleep. As expected, Town lost wickets at regular intervals but since the target was never too far, it was a matter of 'When' rather than 'If'. Town chased the target in 32 overs with the loss of 7 wickets.

A perfect outing as the doctor would have ordered, with the exception of it being hard work. Battling out the tough conditions early in the season only makes us better and prepares us well ahead of much harder battles to come. Great team effort overall, and we move on.

MOM - C John for a brilliant showcase with the ball and later on bringing Town home safely!
