Luton Town & Indians III v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 13 Jul 2024 at 01:00 p.m.
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Town arrived at Luton Town Indian's ground (as per the address published by the league), only to realize they were 45 minutes away from the actual venue. (Things you manage, ha...)
Weather was as usual—cloudy and cold. The pitch was screaming to bowl first, and that's exactly what Ramawat did after winning the toss.
The new ball was shared by Patel and Cadman, a debutant for the 2nd XI. Both bowled beautifully and made full use of the difficult pitch, despite the LTI openers' attacking approach. Patel was soon rewarded with a wicket. Cadman, though unlucky not to take any wickets in his opening spell, showed tremendous maturity and control over the ball. A bowling change saw John pick up from where he left off against LTI, claiming two quick wickets and leaving LTI at 65/4 in 18 overs. Given the tricky pitch that was staying low and painfully slow, LTI tried hard to build partnerships but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Mr. 2's, Puwar, was back to his best, taking a couple of wickets in his full spell while conceding only 16 runs. He was equally supported by his spin counterparts, Mobeen and Kayani. In pursuit of a decent total, LTI was all out for 127 in 38.3 overs.
Now to the best part of the day—'Team Lunch', which is fast becoming a popular activity on Saturdays. A good 20-minute sit-down in a huddle (minus the promised tea by skipper Ramawat), and Town got back to business with Aggarwal and Gairola. Given the nature of the pitch, it was clear the chase would be tricky. Both openers provided a good start, but Gairola got out early. Ramawat walked in at 3 and built a partnership of 40 with Aggarwal before falling to a ball that did not see the light after 'pitching', such was the track.
Aggarwal, who is in sublime form and usually plays like Rohit Sharma, decided to play Kohli today—and he did it to perfection! He watched the ball carefully, ensuring that any 'death rollers' were kept out, and played every delivery very very late. Along the way Aggarwal also ensured to punish every single loose delivery. Such was his control over the chase that he single-handedly took Town to victory despite wickets falling around him.
The scorecard might suggest an easy win, but it was truly a masterclass from Aggarwal that made it look effortless.
Highlights of the day: Kayani, putting in a flying dive to take a catch which TBH he could have taken by just staying still (he dropped that one obviously ha)
Man of the Match:
Rahul Aggarwal
"The greatest glory in living lies not in never failing, but in rising every time we fail".
With that, we move on to the next one.
