Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v West Herts III on Sat 05 Jul 2025 at 01:00 PM
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 28 runs

Match report On an overcast day at Northwood, skipper Shah won the toss and elected to field first — a decision that paid early dividends. Opening bowlers Rudra and Keval set the tone with tight, probing spells. The breakthrough came courtesy of Rudra, who drew a thick edge brilliantly taken by keeper Shah behind the stumps.

The pressure was maintained by first-change duo Jay and Tejasvi, both of whom picked up key wickets to prevent any significant rebuild from the visitors. Krunal added to the momentum with two crucial scalps, keeping West Herts on the back foot. Rudra and Jay returned to clean up the tail, capping off a disciplined and collective bowling effort to dismiss the league leaders for just 134 in 39.2 overs.

Chasing a modest target, Northwood Town got off to a steady start through openers Jay and Bijendra. However, Jay fell to a sharp catch in the slips, and despite a composed 31 from Bijendra, the innings began to unravel. A familiar middle-order collapse saw Town slip into deep trouble, still requiring 60 runs with only two wickets in hand and 15 overs to go.

Rudra, showing grit and determination, anchored the tail-end effort and kept hopes alive. But with 30 needed off the final three overs, he fell attempting to accelerate, caught on the boundary — ending Northwood’s chase at 106 all out.

Skipper Shah reflected on the game:

“Credit to our bowlers — they were outstanding today and gave us every chance by restricting the opposition. Unfortunately, our middle order couldn’t capitalize, and that’s something we need to work on. It’s really disappointing to lose by 29 runs after such a strong effort with the ball. We need to learn how to pull the game back and finish strong. These are the moments where character is tested, and we have to bounce back stronger.”

Despite the loss, Northwood Town can take heart from their bowling performance against the league’s best. With more consistency from the middle order, they remain a dangerous side capable of causing upsets in the weeks ahead.
