Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Northchurch II on Sat 02 Aug 2025 at 01:00 PM
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 20 runs

Match report NTCC welcomed Northchurch to our home ground under overcast skies, with conditions tailor-made for bowling. Skipper won the toss and made the call opting to field first.

Opening bowlers Rudra and Keval set the tone early with tight, disciplined lines that kept the scoring in check. The pressure paid off when Rudra struck first, clean bowling the Northchurch opener to draw first blood.

The introduction of first-change bowlers Aashir and Jay kept the momentum going. Aashir, in particular, made an immediate impact, picking up three quick wickets in his opening spell and rattling the opposition’s middle order.

Later in the innings, Tejasvi and the returning pacers tightened the screws, with Northchurch eventually crawling to 123/8 in their 20 overs. Despite the solid bowling performance, NTCC will feel they left a few runs out there due to some dropped catches and lapses in the field that let Northchurch off the hook.

Chasing 123 against Northchurch, NTCC began their innings with openers Kunal and Jay looking to provide a solid platform. However, the momentum was checked early as Kunal became the first wicket to fall, giving Northchurch their breakthrough.

What followed was a familiar and frustrating pattern — a classic NTCC batting collapse. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals as the top and middle order struggled to cope with disciplined bowling and scoreboard pressure.

Bijendra provided a brief spark of resistance with a gritty cameo, scoring 22 off 29 balls, playing some crucial strokes to keep the chase alive. At the other end, Ruchi showed great resilience, holding his end and offering NTCC a glimmer of hope with a composed knock.

Despite their efforts, the lower order failed to offer meaningful support, and the required run rate crept up. Eventually, NTCC were bowled out for 104, falling 19 runs short of the target in what will feel like a missed opportunity.

Captain Shah said after game -It’s very frustrating to keep losing home games. We had our moments, but we couldn’t capitalize when it mattered the most. Credit to the opposition for playing better cricket today. We need to regroup, reflect on our mistakes, and come back stronger. Come on, boys — let’s show our character and fight back!"
