Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v St Albans III on Sat 30 Aug 2025 at 01:00 PM
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 126 Runs
Match report
On a rainy afternoon at home, NTCC skipper Shah lost the toss and was asked to bat first. Openers Akshay and Bijendra gave the innings a strong start, rotating the strike smartly and punishing anything loose. Bijendra was the first to fall after a fluent 33, but not before helping lay a solid platform.
Jesant then joined Akshay, and the pair continued to build with calm and control. Akshay, playing in what was his final game for the 2nd XI before leaving the club at the end of the season, produced a memorable knock. He top-scored with a composed 68, guiding the innings with maturity and class. His innings was a reminder of the quality and consistency he has brought to NTCC over the years, and it was only fitting that he signed off his 2s career with a standout performance. His unfortunate run-out ended a superb knock, but the applause from the pavilion said it all.
Jesant added a valuable 42, and in the final overs, Mitesh and Keeran provided the late acceleration. Keeran capped off the innings by launching a six off the final delivery, helping NTCC post a competitive 214/5 from their 40 overs.
With rain looming, the bowlers knew they had to complete 20 overs to force a result. Rudra and KP set the tone early, with Rudra claiming the first wicket thanks to a sharp catch by captain Shah standing up to the stumps. After a brief rain delay, KP returned to strike twice in quick succession, while Jesant picked up the key wicket of the aggressive opener.
The fielding unit then tightened the screws, executing four sharp run-outs to leave St Albans in deep trouble. NTCC maintained the pressure and eventually reduced the visitors to 88/9.
Victory was sealed via the DLS method, giving NTCC a well-deserved win in a rain-hit contest — a result that also helped lift the team away from relegation concerns. It was a fitting send-off for Akshay, whose calmness at the crease and leadership by example will be sorely missed.
Captain Shah (Post-Match):
*"What a game! It's a big relief to finally get a win at home after such a long time. This result mostly secures us from the threat of relegation, which is a huge boost for the entire squad. I'm really proud of the team — great effort all around.
Special credit to all our batsmen, especially Akshay, who was outstanding today. This was his first and last appearance for the 2s this season, and with his retirement coming at the end of the season, it was an emotional one for all of us. He made it a game to remember — for himself and for the team — with a brilliant knock.
The bowlers did a great job, as always, and our fielding effort really helped turn the game in our favour. Overall, a fantastic display of teamwork and a truly memorable day for the club."*
