Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Harpenden CC 3rd XI on Sat 09 Aug 2025 at 12:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
It's difficult to write a match report about this week's performance, but the bright spots were the performances of two young players.
With the absence of captain Injum, K. Patel took on the captain's duties, winning the toss and electing to bat. The pitch was arguably the best of the season, negating any excuses for the batting lineup's struggles, save for one standout performance. J. Patel, an in-form young batter playing for the 1st XI first time this season, demonstrated how to score runs with patience. His stylish innings featured shots all around the ground, with lofted cover drives and straight drives being the highlights. Thanks to his 34 runs, Town managed to surpass 50, before eventually being bowled out for 79.
Harpenden's batters came out aggressively, aiming to finish the game quickly. Similar to the batting performance, the bowlers struggled, except for A. Rifat, who was making his 1st XI debut. He bowled with pace and accuracy, quickly taking 3 wickets. It was encouraging to see a youngster bowling with such speed and precision. However, defending a small total proved too difficult, and Harpenden chased the target in 12 overs, losing only 3 wickets.
Captain K. Patel commented after the game: "Absolutely speechless! Possibly the worst game of cricket I've ever been a part of. However, I'm really pleased with J. Patel's batting performance. That innings deserved at least a 50, but he lacked support. A. Rifat bowled with fire, delivering pace that Harpenden's batters struggled to handle."
Town will travel to Hoddesdon next week, desperately seeking a win.
