Match report
Northwood Town CC Start 2025 Campaign with Thrilling 24-Run Win Over SKLP
Northwood Town Cricket Club kicked off their 2025 season in style with a spirited away victory against SKLPC, under the leadership of 2nd XI captain Tushar Shah.
Winning the toss under overcast skies, Shah chose to bat first on what looked like a tricky surface. Openers Jay Patel and Bijendra provided a solid start, combining positive intent with smart shot selection to lay a solid foundation. The pair punished loose deliveries and looked set for a big partnership before SKLP hit back with two quick wickets including the in-form Bijendra halting Northwood Town’s momentum. Jay, however, continued to anchor the innings alongside Mitesh. The duo steadied the ship with a composed partnership, taking Northwood Town past the halfway mark. Jay’s dismissal opened the door once again for SKLP, who seized the moment with two more quick wickets. With the innings wobbling, skipper Tushar Shah stepped up with a captain’s knock — composed, mature, and perfectly tailored to the conditions. His effort helped stabilize the innings, and momentum swung back Northwood Town’s way when Krunal Puwar arrived at the crease, injecting energy and aggression into the lower order by hitting a few boundaries and six. A valuable cameo from Hardik pushed the total to a competitive 223.
SKLP’s Chase: A Rollercoaster
Defending 223, Northwood Town took the field with purpose. Mehul and Rudra opened the bowling, with Mehul impressing early, bowling a tight line and keeping the pressure on. That pressure led to a run-out, giving Northwood their first breakthrough. Rudra, unfortunately, was forced out of the attack after twisting his ankle mid-over. In stepped Panash, who bowled a disciplined spell, keeping things tight and building pressure. The turning point came with the introduction of Jay Patel into the attack. The all-rounder struck early and went on to dismantle SKLP’s top and middle order with a brilliant display of controlled, attacking bowling. Despite Northwood Town’s dominance, SKLP fought back hard through their aggressive number 6 and 7 batters. The pair launched a fierce counterattack, finding boundaries regularly and swinging momentum back in their favour, at one point threatening to take the game away from Northwood Town. But cometh the hour, cometh the man — Jay returned to break the partnership with a key wicket, dismissing the dangerous number 6. Harish then chipped in with a clever dismissal of number 7, turning the tide firmly in Northwood Town’s favour. The bowling unit rallied in the final phase, maintaining discipline and intensity in the field. The remaining wickets fell quickly, and Northwood Town sealed a memorable 24-run victory by bowling out SKLP for 199.
Man of the Match: Jay Patel – 44 runs & 4 wickets
A fantastic team effort to start the season — disciplined, resilient, and full of character.
