Match report Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI lost by 94 runs

Northwood Town’s Saturday 2nd XI suffered a tough afternoon away at Radlett CC 3rd XI, going down by 94 runs in a match where Radlett’s big first-innings total proved too much to chase. Northwood had moments of control with the ball and a spirited lower-order response with the bat, but Radlett’s Ahmed Khan produced the standout innings of the day with an unbeaten century that shaped the match.

Radlett CC 3rd XI innings — 204 for 4 from 40 overs

Radlett batted first and made a steady start, although Northwood did find early breakthroughs. Pradip Pandey struck to remove Mohibur Adnan lbw for 23, while Tejasvi Srivastava bowled Tom Jenkins for 11, giving Northwood something to build on.

From there, however, Radlett took control through Ahmed Khan, who played an excellent unbeaten innings of 103 not out. He anchored the innings superbly, punished anything loose, and made sure Radlett kept moving towards a strong total.

Northwood continued to work hard in the field, and Viral Patel picked up the important wicket of Azhar Kayani for 36, while Harish Janardhanan bowled Aarav Kaushik for 7. Abhinav Khare added 13 not out late on, helping Radlett close on 204 for 4.

For Northwood, Pradip Pandey was the most economical bowler, finishing with 1 for 26, while Tejasvi Srivastava bowled a tidy spell of 1 for 32. Harish Janardhanan also kept things controlled with 1 for 17, and Viral Patel chipped in with a wicket as Radlett were restricted to four wickets down.

It was not a disastrous bowling effort by any means, but Ahmed Khan’s hundred was the difference. Without that one major innings, the game could have looked very different.

Northwood Town innings — 110 all out

Chasing 205, Northwood needed a solid start, but Radlett’s bowlers applied pressure straight away. The top order struggled to settle, with Bijendra Vaghela, Pradip Pandey and Harish Janardhanan all falling cheaply.

Krunal Puwar made 5, while Karan Rajani tried to rebuild with a useful 17. Mitesh Pondha also added 14, and Hardik Nakum contributed 9, but Northwood kept losing wickets just when a partnership was needed.

The best resistance came from Aashir Rifat, who played the standout Northwood innings of the day. Coming in with the chase already under pressure, Aashir showed real fight and confidence, scoring an excellent 38. He batted with positive intent, gave the innings some much-needed momentum, and made sure Northwood did not fade quietly.

At the other end, Tejasvi Srivastava remained 7 not out, but Northwood were eventually bowled out for 110.

Radlett bowled well as a unit. Mohammed Dishary did the early damage with 3 for 24, while Azhar Kayani was very tight with 2 for 7. Nis Patel also picked up 2 wickets, helping Radlett close out the game comfortably.

Northwood positives

Despite the result, there were still a few positives to take. Aashir Rifat’s 38 was a really good lower-order innings and showed plenty of character. With the ball, Pradip Pandey, Tejasvi Srivastava and Harish Janardhanan all bowled disciplined spells and picked up wickets.

The main difference was Radlett having one batter go on to make a match-winning hundred, while Northwood were unable to build a similar partnership in the chase.

Final word

A difficult result for Northwood, but not a day without effort or positives. Radlett’s Ahmed Khan played the innings that decided the match, and once Northwood were chasing over 200, early wickets made the task very difficult.

Still, Aashir Rifat’s excellent 38, along with tidy spells from Pradip, Tejasvi and Harish, gave Northwood something to take forward.

One to learn from, reset from, and come back stronger next week.
