Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Ickleford CC 2nd XI on Sat 23 May 2026 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Northwood Town produced a strong all-round performance to beat Ickleford CC 2nd XI by 5 wickets. It was one of those proper Saturday league wins: tidy bowling, sharp fielding, a controlled chase, and just enough calm in the middle to avoid turning a manageable target into unnecessary chaos.
Ickleford CC 2nd XI innings — 130 for 8 from 40 overs
Ickleford batted first and were made to work hard for every run. Northwood’s bowlers set the tone early, with Vishal Barad delivering an excellent opening spell. He finished with outstanding figures of 4 overs, 2 maidens, 8 runs, 2 wickets, removing Akein Perera and Bharath Puttur to put Ickleford under pressure straight away. Ickleford tried to rebuild through Russell Dermont, who made a patient 22 from 71 balls, and Richard Brown, who top-scored with 40 from 72 balls. Brown looked like the batter most likely to push Ickleford towards a bigger total, but Krunal Puwar broke that stand with an important wicket, helped by a good catch from Vishal Barad. The main damage, however, came from Viral Patel, who bowled a superb match-shaping spell. His figures of 8 overs, 3 maidens, 16 runs, 4 wickets were exactly what Northwood needed. He removed Russell Dermont, Adam Ross, Teddy Lace and Thomas Broughton, keeping Ickleford pinned down and preventing any late acceleration. Credit also goes to Tejasvi Srivastava and Aashir Rifat, who both bowled disciplined spells of 8 overs, 2 maidens, 19 runs, 0 wickets. They may not have taken wickets, but they gave absolutely nothing away, and that pressure helped Northwood control the innings. Harish Janardhanan also chipped in well, taking 1 for 11 from 4 overs. Behind the stumps, Tushar Shah was sharp, taking a catch and completing a stumping. Northwood restricted Ickleford to 130 for 8 from 40 overs, a total that was competitive but very chaseable if approached sensibly.
Northwood Town innings — 134 for 5 from 36.1 overs
Chasing 131, Northwood needed calm heads rather than panic, and that is exactly what they got from Tushar Shah. He played the defining innings of the match, scoring 61 from 95 balls, with ten boundaries. It was not reckless hitting; it was controlled, patient and perfectly suited to the chase. At the other end, Pradip Pandey gave Northwood a solid platform with 32 from 69 balls, including three fours. Together, Pradip and Tushar absorbed the pressure and made sure Northwood did not lose early control of the chase. When Pradip fell, Bijendra Vaghela added useful momentum with a brisk 22 from 26 balls, striking four boundaries and keeping Northwood ahead of the game. There was a small wobble with a couple of quick wickets, but the target was always within reach thanks to the foundation built by the top order. Vishal Barad then added a calm unbeaten 8 from 10 balls, while Hardik Nakum stayed there at the end with 2 not out from 9 balls, helping Northwood get over the line without further drama. For Ickleford, Teddy Lace was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 28 from 8 overs, while Akein Perera bowled very tightly, taking 2 for 12 from 5 overs. But Northwood had done enough, reaching 134 for 5 and sealing a well-earned 5-wicket win.
Man of the Match — Tushar Shah
A strong case could be made for Viral Patel after his brilliant 4 for 16, but the match-winning contribution goes to Tushar Shah. His 61 from 95 balls, along with his work behind the stumps, gave Northwood the control they needed in both innings. A proper all-round contribution when it mattered.
Final word
This was a proper team win. Vishal Barad set the tone with the new ball, Viral Patel ripped through the middle and lower order, Tejasvi and Aashir kept things tight, and Tushar Shah led the chase with maturity and control.
Northwood Town 2nd XI win by 5 wickets — disciplined, composed, and very well deserved.
