Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v Berkhamsted IV on Sat 10 Jul 2021 at 12:00 pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost By 2 wickets
Match report
The Town 4's went to into the weekend looking for their third win on the bounce.
After a morning drizzle the match had a delayed start but thankfully with no overs lost. Town lost the toss and were put into bat by Berkhamsted who had only lost one game this season. With new opening prodigy Jay Patel (28) ably assisted by club stalwart JB (18). They put on 51 for the first wicket after 13 overs and Town were looking good for an above par score. Berkhamsted's opening bowler had other thoughts and got the wickets of both openers and Town number 3 in the space of 6 balls. Town Skipper Harry Shaw (17) arrived at the crease and steadied the ship. Berkhamsted bought on two excellent spinners. With a tacky wicket and a soft ball, runs became very hard to get by and Town lost 3 more wickets trying to post a score. At 85-5 in the 25th over Firfire (19*) and Cook (16*) came together and town posted 129-6 in their 40 overs.
Kumar and Cook opened the bowling for Town and the harder ball meant Berkhamsted got off to a flying start. As the ball got softer the runs dried up and Towns bowlers found their rhythm. All bowlers contributed and Towns spinners were also exceptional in drying up the runs at one stage bowling 5 maidens in a row. The game was taken down to the wire with Berkhamsted requiring 7 off the last over and getting it with 3 balls to spare.
