Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Hatfield & Crusaders on Sat 28 May 2022 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Town welcomed league leaders Hatfield & Crusaders (H&C) this week looking to end their unbeaten start to the season. Town lost the toss and were asked to field first.
H&C started very cautiously R Aggarwal and Kieron P bowled with great control. Despite not getting an early breakthrough runs were hard to come by. R Aggarwal in-particular very impressive bowling great line & length and being economical. First breakthrough however came in the 16th over from H Halai and yet again just like every game A Burt with a great low catch at gully! H&C batters really struggled to accelerate but all the credit goes to Town bowlers with skipper K Patel and I Anjum bowling very economical. Introduction of J Halai as seen in last game brought wickets. With his loopy off spins H&C batters tried to take him on with no success and he finished with an excellent figure of 39/4 in his 10 overs. Special mention again to A Burt who took a spectacular 1 handed catch on the boundary (this season he’s been Town own Jonty Rhodes). In the end H&C finished on 181/6 in their 50 overs.
Town batters started cautiously as well but R Aggarwal was quick to put anything lose away. However, Town lost both openers quickly leaving them on 29/2. That became 47/3 when I Anjum departed in a very unlike fashion caught at mid-on. But just like he has been this season A Burt to the rescue again and together with S Modi put on 31 run partnership. Modi who was dropped on 0 made them pay motoring to 27 in no time. But just when it looked to be going well for Town S Modi got out. Playing his 1st game for the first team this season K Sudagaran walked in. Together with A Burt partnership grew to 49. Burt playing second fiddle to Sudagaran masterclass. He played shots all around the ground and was equally good in keeping good balls out. It was almost Sudagaran just knew how to play with the right temperament to chase down the total. Again, as Town don’t like doing things easy A Burt, M Patel and K Patel departed leaving them on 134/7. Runs and overs were never going to be a problem, but Town just had to make sure K Sudagaran wasn’t stranded at the non-strikes end. Kieron P walking in at 9 played the support role that was required and together they put on 44 in no time. K Sudagaran passing his 50 with a lovely flick of his pads. With just 4 required to win Kieron P got out and skipper K Patel put the first ball he faced for a four for a Town win. K Sudagaran ended on 57* inning which was worthy of being man of the match. Town winning the game by 2 wickets.
K Patel spoke after the game: “Was very pleased with how we bowled and fielded to re-strict them to 181! And with the bat K Sudagaran deserves all the credit for playing a very mature inning. J Halai showed again how effective he is with the bowl”
Town travel to Watford Town next week.
