Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v Watford Town V on Sat 07 May 2022 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 9 runs

Match report A superb start to the 4s season - what a humdinger of a game ! A win over Watford Town gives us a valuable 30 point start toward the division title.

A closely fought game in the end. Town lost the toss and were inserted to bat on what appeared to be a slightly greenish tinged wicket. Openers JB and Jaineel started cautiously against a quality opening pace and swing bowling attack. Jaineel departed early and the 2nd wicket of Dhaval fell in the 7th over. JB fought gallantly and kept the scoreboard ticking along whilst anchoring the top order. JB was joined by Jaspal, together they pushed the score to 56 for 3 from 15 overs. Jaspal in his first innings showed signs of composure and skill against the two opening bowlers but was undone by a low LBW shout. Lal added a further 15 runs to the scoreboard but was outsmarted by a low legside delivery. At 20 overs 4s were a respectable 82 for 3 aiming to push on in the second half and double-up. Unfortunately our middle order fire-power did not ignite and we lost 5 quick wickets after drinks for only 24 runs. At 8 wickets down veteran Minesh mounted a rear-guard fight back and added a valuable 17 match winning runs to end the innings on a defendable score of 131 off 34 overs.

After tea, 4s took the field with openers Mitesh and Dhiren. Maestro Mitesh was straight on the money from the 1st over bowling with guile and magic. Dhiren kept the opposition batsmen guessing and found his mark in the 6th over trapping one of the openers for LBW with the score at 45. That was 4s cue to start the fightback. Mitesh continued to bowl magnificently picking up 3 wickets in his 8 over spell. At the other end Minesh bowled tightly to keep the pressure and stem the run rate. At drinks the oppo were 78 for 5, Dhaval bowled fiercely picking up 1 wicket. After a quick wicket keeping change, Prakash was bought into the attack and immediately started with a maiden over. The opposition were now starting to panic and the thought of an easy run chase was slowly ebbing from their minds. Despite brief middle order resistance which was confounded by some excellent fielding and catches behind the stumps, the opposition run rate continued to falter. JB was bought into the attack to twist and turn and deliver the final knock-out blows, both he and Prakash picked up the last 4 wickets for a meagre 8 runs. Watford Town all out for 122, 9 short of their target.

Well done chaps, once again despite some verbal ambient noise from the opposition we let our cricket do the talking and continued to play professionally and admirably. Onwards....
