Northwood Town Cricket Club Midweek v Elite CC on Wed 15 Jun 2022 at 5.30pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost

Match report Town welcomed Elite CC aka Windermere CC on a beautiful evening looking to back up last weeks winning effort. New skipper for the day N.Madhavan's debut effort started badly, as he lost the toss and the opposition opted to bat first.

Batting first, elite CC lost their opener in the first over thanks to a great ball by Viral Patel. Unfortunately for town however, this was the only bright spark for a long time as Elite's Other opener and number 3 plundered runs at nearly 10 runs per over for the next 13 overs as elite moved steadily towards the 200 mark and beyond. However in the middle, the town skipper bringing himself on, managed to pick up 3 wickets which halted the progress somewhat, brilliantly supported through the middle by Henry Myring, who bowled accurately and to his field. The bowling effort was then finished off brilliantly by the ever trusty Jack Daly who finished with the most economical figures of the innings. Elite CC who were on track for 200-210 Eve eventually ended their innings with 174.

Towns batting effort begun in very bizarre fashion, as the second over of the innings contained a total of 19 balls including 13 wides and a mix of fast, spin and medium pace bowling. However, Town couldn't take advantage of this debacle of an over and lost quick wickets regularly. The bright spark of this innings was definitely Harry Shaw, who put on a gritty effort of 37 and carried his brilliant league form into this game. Unfortunately, no other batsman could stick around with him to make a real match of it. Town ended their second innings with 108 including a total of 36 wides, eventually loosing by 63 runs.

The debutant skipper reflected after the game: Unfortunately for us, we fielded and bowled very ordinarily, which led to Elite getting a very big score. Granted, the two batsmen from their side who got the runs were quality, but we certainly could've executed some of our basics better. With bat in hand, we showed intent but were not able to convert into runs leading to clusters of wickets all through the innings. All in all, very impressed by Henry Myring, who I believe with the right mentoring can be moulded into a future star for the club and also by Harry Shaw who's been brilliant this season. As always, me move forward and welcome our next midweek opponent.
