Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v London Colney on Sat 02 Sep 2023 at 11:30am
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 91 runs
Match report
It was last game of the season and Town had nothing to play for. However, it was still a special day as K Lawrence was playing his last game for the club.
Winning the toss against London Colney skipper decided to bat first. Apart from Lawrence who was slotted to bat at 4th everyone else had their names drawn from the hat. Skipper opened the batting with Loomba but fell cheaply. Anjum coming in at 3 started building partnership together and put on 45 runs for the 2nd wicket. But just when things looked good Anjum was run out as Loomba sold him down the river. Lawrence walked in and showed everyone that he can bat punishing anything lose. It wasn’t his usual cautious inning and was plying with more freedom and aggression. Loomba departed having scored 31. LC (London Colney) fielders were competing to see who drops the most catches as few easy chances went down and Lawrence quickly raced to 43. Just when everyone thought he would sign off with a 50 in his last game he got out. He received thunderous applause walking back to the pavilion. Madhavan failed cheaply but Town’s usual opener Aggarwal batting at 7 started smashing the ball all around the park. He was well supported by Gairola and both together put on 61 runs in just 9.1 overs. Aggarwal departed for 31 as Town looked to post a big total. Gairola kept going but once again this season feel short of a well deserved fifty on 47. In the end Town were all out for 211.
Coming out to field Town gave Lawrence a guard of honour. It was an emotional moment for him and the team talk was all about him wanting to win this last game. Lawrence’s best mate at Town Daly opened the bowling with him. Daly who’s been absolute class this season got going straight away removing Raja. Lawrence who’s been bowling lot of 20 overs a game last few weeks bowled a 6 ball over and removed Zeiderman and Davies. Daly kept picking up wickets for fun and got 5-for he deserved. That left LC 50/7 in 17 overs. There was a small fightback from the lower order but LC were all out for 120 Town winning by 91 runs.
Skipper spoke after the game: It was great to end the season with a win. Despite finishing 4th we still see it as a successful season having been promoted to this division. Lawrence has been a key player for the 1s and he will be badly missed. His passion and aggression on the pitch can only be matched by few. Looking forward to the off season and turning my focus on playing golf.
