Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Bushey II on Sat 27 May 2023 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report Hosting Bushey on a sunny day and a great track, Town turned up at 11.45, starting off their pre-match jobs and readying themselves to take on Bushey CC. Having warmed up and done the jobs, Town received the visitors and after a quick toss, decided to go in and bat on an absolute beauty of a batting track. Opening the batting for Town was Jesant and Bijendra and a quick start from those two alongside a rapid outfield (surprising given the nature of our grounds) propped town to a good start. However, Bushey made a breakthrough early on with a good delivery to deliver Jesant who was looking to go up and over the mid-off fielder and instead chipping it for an easy catch. Replacing Jesant was Ravi who went in and with Bijendra, started to form a good start to a partnership, rotating singles and hitting a few boundaries before Bijendra became Bushey's next victim, bowled when trying to push Bushey back. Bijendra's dismissal introduced Cijine into the fold who started off well before missing out on a full toss and paddling it straight for a catch at square leg. Town's good start seemed a long time ago with wickets falling for Town and this only contined as Keeran entered the crease, soon returning after a first ball duck and leaving Ravi partnerless. Sajid came out at 6 and with Ravi, both started a small partnership to stabilise the batting with Sajid settling in and Ravi scoring a couple of boundaries. However, Ravi soon fell for a catch, introducing Neel who played for a little while before then being dismissed with a catch. Tushar came to the crease and batted sensibly for a while with Sajid, helping stabilising the innings before he also fell and Town contnued to fall with wickets tumbling at regular intervals. Our final batting partnership however was something to focus on as Pratik and Hiren both put together a 30 run partnership to pick Town's score up from below 100 to 127, ending 127 - 10 in 37.3 overs.

A quick tea break as Town was eager to win some points and Town headed on field in an attempt to defend the 128 target and opening the bowling for Town was Sajid and Pratik. Both bowlers started well, being very economical and not giving the batsmen a chance to settle with Pratik taking the first wicket with an admittedly short ball and a fantastic grab/catch from Sajid, looking as if he just plucked the ball from it's flight path for a catch. The early breakthrough gave Town some hope as they looked to shift bowlers around and Jesant came on, with his controlled spin and the change in bowling reaped rewards for Jesant and the team as Town soon took their second wicke, courtesy of another catch from Sajid. Jesant's bowling prowess on the day grew as he kept his tight lines, frustrating the batsmen and eventually nicking the opener for Bushey on 33 for Tushar to take as the batsman walked off without awaiting a decision from the umpire. Town continued to keep the pressure on Bushey and as runs dried up, Bushey had started to struggle, a run out with Bijendra and Sajid proving the runs drying up being an issue for Bushey. However, Bushey's number five came in and took immediatley to Jesant's spin, dispatching the off-spinner with some big 6's and a few 4's and turning the tide strongly back into Bushey's favour after a great period of pressure from Northwood Town. Hiren was introduced into the bowling attack and after some good deliveries eventually took the batsman out with a great catch from Krunal Puwar but the damage had already been done with Bushey's number 5 scoring 40 in quick succession and ultimately wrapping the game up despite not being there to see Bushey home. Town continued to push however and whilst this resulted in a further wicket for Jesant, earning a caught and bowled, they had conceded too many runs to the number 5 and Bushey's next couple of batsmen were able to carry them to 130 - 6 in 33.4 overs, resulting in a second defeat for Town's 2's this season.

A sad defeat and a lot to reflect on, Town pondered on what needed to change heading into next week to avoid the relegation zone. Some lacklustre batting and a few dropped catches were some of the Town's main concerns but it was positive to see Town's bowling attack manage to almost defend a measly 128 target on a brilliant batting deck. Onto next Town, let's change things up and get back to winning ways!
