Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Old Cholmeleians on Sat 17 Jun 2023 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won 170 runs
Match report
Having played and unfortunately lost a close game last weekend, Town arrived to their home ground eager to change their win status and kick off their season officially with their first win of the season. A new strip cut out, jobs done and an encouraging warm-up, Town won the toss and elected to bat first, looking to take advantage of the brand new deck and humid conditions. Opening the batting was Bijendra and Harry who started off well against the slow bowlers of Old Cholmeleians, rotating the strike and Harry hitting a very nice straight drive for 4. However, the opposition's loopy bowling soon trapped Bijendra with the ball being skied in the air for an easy catch and a soft dismissal for Town. Coming in for Bijendra was Ravi but disaster struck as Harry chipped one straight up for a catch, losing two wickets in quick succession. Cijine came in to bat with Ravi but he also was dismissed, trapped on his pads and he was dismissed as well, introducing Keeran to the crease. Ravi and Keeran had a brief run together, both rotating the strike for a couple of overs and Keeran playing his shots before he clothed one straight to midwicket, continuing the Town collapse, with Sajid and Amit both coming and soon departing, leaving Town at a score of 39 - 6 in 15 overs. After a miserable start, Tushar shah decided to pick the game up by the scruff of the neck. Working with Ravi to maintain a stable partnership, Tushar started scoring well with some fantastic 4's and 6's and started picking the run-rate up whilst Ravi was supporting Tushar effectively on the other end, running some quick singles and hitting boundaries where needed to keep the scoreboard ticking. This partnership between Ravi and Tushar was fantastic in the way the game situation and pressure did not affect any of them as they took the attack back to Old Cholmeleians. Having a partnership of 179, both boys helped carry Town to above 200 before both being dismissed trying to accelerate. Coming in the final five overs, Town saw a brilliant flurry of 4's and 6's from Krunal Puwar who scored a rapid 50 within 5 overs to propel Town to a fantastic score of 272 in our 40 overs. After such a slow start and a silly loss in wickets early on, Town were extremely delighted with their resurgence, thanks to a fantastic 150+ partnership from Ravi and Tushar.
After a pleasant break, Town came out to defend their 272 total with Sajid and Hiren leading the bowling attack for Town. Town started off a little loose with Old Cholmeleians skipper playing some aggressive drives and pulls and giving them a great start. Sajid managed to remove the other opener just after being dispatched for a 6 and that brought in the next batsman, pranav, who scored well with the skipper together, taking their team to 74 in 11 overs before Krunal Puwar came in, dismissing the opposition skipper with his first delivery of the day, courtesy of a great catch at slip from Ravi. Having batted initially and understood the wicket being a spinning wicket, Town soon introduced both their spinners Krunal Puwar and Harry and together, they maintained a 7 wicket bowling spell with KP taking a fifer and the two spinners took Town home to an extremely comfortable win, bowling out the opposition for 103 in 22 overs.
Great performance by the team with multiple people stepping up but standout performances go to Ravi, Tushar and KP for solidfying that score and giving Town a strong total to work with. A strong way to kick start the season and onto the next week as Town face Flitwick away.
