Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 45 runs
Match report
A respite in the monsoon conditions saw the sun shine and NTCC travel to Southgate Compton. The toss was quickly won and the opposition inserted to bat onto track that could only be described as moist and spongy.
NTCC took the field in high spirits bagging an early skier from Pratik's bowling. At the other other Charlie bowled fabulously with tight lines and a nice pace despite the slowness of the wicket. Our seven strike bowlers were all in the game mostly getting wickets through some excellent catches, a one handed catch by Usman at mid-on had the crowds screaming and applauding, definitely one for Sky Sports Replay. With all round excellent bowling and tight fielding, at one stage NTCC felt we could bowl out the opposition for less than 100, however some gritty middle order batting and tight running pushed the opposition to 144 in their 40 overs.
With the outfield still quite wet and the pitch showing some interesting bounce, NTCC took took to their innings with the opening pair of Pradip and Ravi. Settling in nicely with some lusty blows from Pradip, the fielders were soon scattered and the openers were managing the run rate. Some forced errors and a very slow pitch saw wickets fall at regular intervals. Not enough partnerships were built to support the innings despite good starts from Amit (22) and Kishan (15), NTCC had to settle with a total of 99 all out.
Plenty of learnings all round in the bowling and batting departments. Overall it was a delight to be on the park given the weather conditions over the last few weeks.
