Rickmansworth III v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 15 Jul 2023 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report NTCC 3 headed to Rikmansworth on the West Hertfordshire border to battle the division's leaders. The run of winning tosses was bought to a halt this week on the flip of a sub-continent coin and NTCC were asked to bat first on a damp outfield.

Our openers Pradip and Akshar set the innings off beautifully with balanced strokes and good running between the wickets. At 12 overs we were 35 for no loss and ready to build the platform into the 2nd half of the innings. Unfortunately Zeus and Jupiter had different intentions for NTCC and proceeded to deluge the ground with torrential rain that lasted nearly 15 mins. As both teams exited the leaky shack that served as the temporary rain shelter, the outlook did not look good. The outfield resembled a paddy field whilst the strip (which had been covered) was dry at one end but at the other the covers had leaked. Credit to the opposition (albeit the rain would now give them the advantage) set out brooming the water off bowling run-ups and rolling the super soaker up and down the strip. After mutual agreement between the two captains the game was reduced to 30 overs and NTCC set-off to up the run rate. A brilliant 30 from Henry exploded the innings , Pradip swung the bat and scored a valuable 31, plus a strong contribution from Ganesh (16) took NTCC to 126. Given the wet conditions we knew the ask would be tough if we bowled tight however we felt that we were probably 30 runs short of where we should be in a normal 40 over game after 30 overs.

Despite valiant bowling efforts from Thomas, Henry, Pratik, Pradip and Ganesh the Rikmansworth batsmen set-off aggressively and continued in this vein throughout their innings reaching the target comfortably in the 25th over.

We were always behind the eight ball when the toss was lost and the rain plummeted. However as a team we agreed to carry on and at least get some cricket in. The game was played in good spirits and despite the loss plenty of positives all round. Onwards...
