Match report
On a beautiful sunny saturday we arrived to a very desirable looking wicket; won the toss and skipper Sam elected to bat first. Sam, on strike, opened the batting with Kaushal and quickly got off the mark with a few handy singles from the first over. Not too soon after, Kaushal caught a delivery with the top edge of the bat and skied the ball into the air resulting in a very impressive diving catch from the fielder. After this, Sam remaining sensible and continued the innings with Ali - who came in to bat for the first time in 6 years - and immediately made an impression with some great defence, actively calling 1s & 2s, and hitting some very handy boundaries. After playing a sensible first 8 or so overs, Sam went for an expansive cover drive to a bowler, of whom had been consistently bowling back of a length, and ended up punching the ball into the lap of the fielder patiently waiting in the cover region. Tushar came in to bat next but was unfortunately unable to replicate his partnership building from the week before and got out LBW not long after arriving at the crease. Usman came in and scored a very handy 12 runs having stayed at the crease for some time and steadying the ship. Soon followed Ibbad who also made a decent contribution of time at the crease and a score of 18 before getting caught. In followed Prax and roney who weren't able to get off the mark; this was followed by vice captain Dhaval who mde a very useful 22. Maaz and Saad got us to the 40th over before both getting bowled with Dhaval on the other end - 133 scored in total.
We then came back onto the field to bowl and defend our modest but defence worthy total and were successful in only the fourth over when Usman took a wonderful catch off of his brother Maaz's bowling. Maaz was successful again four overs later with another catch this time caught behind by wicket keeper Prax; in total Maaz only conceeding 15 runs off of his eight overs. Ibbad, the opening bowler on the other end, was not able to take any wickets but bowled superbly only accumilating 22 runs from his eight over spell with one maiden. Saad then came on to take two more wickets from two very handy catches by his broter Ibbad and another from Sam. Sam came on after a brief spell from Roney and took three wickets, all caught including two caught & bowled. At this stage Pinner were struggling to put on runs and were desperately running some risky singles which, had Town been a little sharper in the field, could have resulted in a run out or two but we were unlucky; albiet still doing a very good job in the field at keeping the run rate low. Kaushal came on to bowl and was doing so fantiasticly with a great line and length that the Pinner bottom order were struggling to attack off of; and which lead to another wicket when Kaushal clean bowled Pinners number 9 batsman.
The game got incredibly close and entertaining as pinner came closer and closer toward the end of their innings still needing runs to win the match; requiring 3 more off of the 40th over. They were indeed able to get over the line in the end by some brave batting by their no.10 who scored the winning runs which brought an end to a thrilling first game at home for the 4s. Some very positive takeaways from the game - in particular Ali's batting, Ibbad and Maaz's fantastic opening bowling spell and an overall fantastic performance in the field by the boys. On to next week!
