Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost By 66 Runs

Match report Town travelled away to Wheathampstead CC on a muggy Saturday afternoon. Town skipper Madhavan lost the toss for the 8th time this year and the opposition chose to bat first on what can be described as a very good batting wicket. The opposition batters got off to a very good start putting 30 runs in the first 3 overs putting the new ball away with ease. However, S Malik who was one of the bowlers of the day struck early to remove one of the dangerous openers. Right through the innings however, the opposition batters showed great patience and skills to keep the town bowlers at bay. Even though the town bowlers didn't do much wrong, the opposition managed a daunting score of 235-5 after the allotted 50 overs. The trio of spinners Madhavan, Anjum and Patel bowled economically but could only find 1 wicket between them. Malik and Vadgama bowled very well to keep the opposition relatively quiet whilst picking up a few wickets, Kayani had a bit off off day but showed some good skills bowling at the death.

In response Town openers Loomba and Madhavan begun well hitting the ball to the boundary at regular intervals and keeping the run rate moving in the right direction. However in what can be described as a trademark dismissal, Madhavan got caught out attempting another big shot which prompted a classical NTCC collapse. Loomba showed patience and stayed at the crease witnessing the crumble around him, however he holed out attempting a big shot as the run rate steadily climbed. At one point Town found themselves 90 odd for 6 and staring down the barrel. However, Sudagaran joined by Vadgama put together an incredible fight back taking the game as deep as possible. Sudagaran showed amazing grit and concentration to stop the rot, whereas Vadgama played some aggressive shots, whilst showing some much needed restraint too. As the partnership was growing and starting to really bother the oppo, Keeran unfortunately chipped one straight into the hands of the fielder ending a potential match winning partnership. Vadgama unfortunately also fell soon after, and towns innings was cut short after only managing to face 41.3 overs, loosing the game by 66 runs.

After the game skipper Madhavan spoke: Tough loss, felt luck was also not on our side. As usual didn't place enough value on our wickets whilst batting and could have fielded a lot better. But all in all, team spirit is still high and we need to look to around the season asap now. Definitely believe in this bunch of guys and myself to take us out of this position and into a better position very soon.
