Kings Langley II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 03 Aug 2024 at 01:00 p.m.
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report Town travelled to Kings Langley on another cloudy day and were greeted with a lovely setup. With regular skipper Ramawat out with an injury, vice-captain T Shah stepped in but unfortunately lost the toss, and Town were asked to bowl first.

The new ball was shared between Patel and Rajani, both of whom got into the action immediately, giving nothing away to the Langley batsmen. However, a horrible mix-up led to Town’s first breakthrough. Rajani, who was bowling beautifully, secured a further double breakthrough in his 4th over, giving Town a perfect start. Langley were 23/3 at the end of 8 overs.

A double bowling change introduced R Shah and John into the attack, both of whom were rewarded immediately. R Shah, in particular, showed much better control and variety with a slightly older ball. R Shah tore through the Langley middle order and ended up with a much-deserved five-wicket haul. The Langley batsmen tried to counterattack in a few brief patches but couldn’t convert their efforts into anything meaningful. In the end, Langley posted 93 runs in 21 overs, which looked like a below-par score on that surface.

After a sit-down meal and tea, Town started their chase with a bit of a twist. Vaghela and T Shah opened the innings and showed intent immediately. However, Shah was unfortunate to be run out while trying to steal three runs, forgetting that he was on the wrong side of the 40s ha. Another surprise came when Mobeen walked in at number 3 and provided able support to Vaghela, who seemed like a man on a mission to chase the score down with no time to waste. Vaghela played some of his trademark lofted straight drives on his way to a much-deserved "return to form" with a 50 before getting out with the victory in sight. Gairola, at number 4, finished the job in style, and Town won the game with 8 wickets in hand.

It was a perfect game for Town, where the bowlers bowled beautifully, and the fielding was equally impressive. Special shout out to 2s debutant for this year Sageeran for a brilliant effort in the field. The batsmen later chased the target with ease, making it a perfect outing for Town and putting them back on a winning path.

Man of the Match: Rudra Shah for excellent bowling efforts
