On a glorious sunny afternoon, Northwood Town Cricket Club travelled to Northchurch for a hotly anticipated away fixture. Conditions couldn’t have been better for batting, with a flat pitch dubbed a “road” and a lightning-quick outfield. After losing the toss, NTCC were asked to bat first. Openers Bijendra and Jesant faced early pressure, with Northchurch striking twice in the opening overs to remove both and put NTCC on the back foot. However, the experienced pair of Ravi and Burty rebuilt steadily, showcasing composure, sharp running between the wickets, and ruthless punishment of anything loose. Burty was particularly fluent, accelerating the scoring with a commanding knock of 79, before falling while looking to push the rate even further. Ravi held the innings together brilliantly with an unbeaten 70*, supported by a useful cameo from Krunal. NTCC closed on 231, a score that felt par given the conditions.

In defence of a competitive total, NTCC’s bowlers hit their straps early. Rudra struck in his first over, trapping the Northchurch No. 2 for a golden duck, while Keval removed the other opener with a sharp catch behind the stumps by keeper Tushar. With the tone set, Patrick and Jay maintained the pressure. Jay made the crucial breakthrough with a clever slower yorker and followed it up with another key wicket thanks to a smart catch by Krunal. Patrick joined the party with a scalp of his own, ensuring NTCC stayed on top. As the hosts tried to claw their way back, NTCC’s skipper turned to pace again, reintroducing Rudra and Deepak Raj. The decision paid off — Rudra took a stunning one-handed return catch to remove the No. 6, and Deepak quickly accounted for the No. 7. Keval returned to finish the job, cleaning up the tail with precision as Northchurch were bowled out for 189, handing Northwood Town a 42-run victory.
