Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Kings Langley CC 1st XI on Sat 10 May 2025 at 12:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 77 runs

Match report In a move some are calling strategic genius, Northwood Town 1st XI skipper I Anjum won the toss and chose to bat. What followed was an innings best described as a rollercoaster.

The pitch looked like a batsman’s paradise, but Northwood Town quickly proved otherwise. A Loomba (41) and J Han (35) looked solid, smashing boundaries and building a strong partnership after former Town player R Aggarwal dismissed N Madhavan early. A Burt chipped in with a quickfire 20—probably already dreaming of the post-match BBQ—before falling to a pea roller that even Bradman might have missed. Unfortunately, the rest of the batting lineup collapsed faster than a house of cards. Special mention goes to I Anjum, V Vadgama, and K Patel, whose time at the crease was shorter than a 20-second YouTube ad. To their credit, Kings Langley’s bowlers were so generous with extras that they nearly became Town’s third-highest run-scorer. Town ended their innings on 141 all out.

Chasing what must have seemed like an easy target, Kings Langley put on a masterclass in how not to bat. J Daly sent former Town player R Aggarwal back to the pavilion with a plumb LBW, and from there, Kings Langley looked like they were playing a different sport altogether. Tom Warrel (19) and another ex Town player Amit (15) offered brief resistance, but the rest of the batting order appeared determined to out-collapse Northwood Town. Thankfully for Northwood, their bowlers came to the party. J Daly, V Vadgama, and I Anjum each took three wickets, while K Patel even picked up one—probably by accident. Kings Langley were skittled for just 64, handing Town a convincing 77-run victory.

Northwood Town emerged victorious, proving that even a s*** batting performance can be defended with disciplined bowling.

After the game, captain I Anjum said:
"The first game of the season is always tricky, as we all try to shake off the cobwebs. I'm very pleased with the win! Yes, the batting could have been better, but we can take positives from the top order setting a platform. The bowling and fielding couldn’t have been better! What I’m most happy about is the spirit with which all XI played—supporting and fighting for each other till the end."
