Hoddesdon CC Saturday 2nd XI v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 16 Aug 2025 at 12:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report On a cloudy Saturday at Hoddesdon, Northwood Town’s first XI faced off against Hoddesdon’s second XI in a match that turned out to be pretty straightforward. If you were hoping for fireworks and drama, this game was more like a slow, easy stroll through the park.

Hoddesdon batted first but didn’t really get going. B Fig was the lone warrior, smashing a solid 75 as if he was the only one who bothered showing up. The rest of the team seemed content to gently tap the ball around, scoring a few runs here and there without any real urgency. Eventually, they were bowled out for 165 after nearly 45 overs. V Vadgama was the thorn in their side, taking 4 wickets while barely letting any runs slip through — basically telling the batsmen, “Not on my watch!” and bowling like prime McGrath. Another highlight of the inning was A Loomba taking 2 slip catches (although they were regulation).

Chasing 166, Northwood’s openers got off to a shaky start. Akshay Loomba seemed to be having one of those seasons where nothing goes his way (except maybe those famous Wenzel baguettes) — he was out early lbw to a ball that probably missed the stump by a country mile, making everyone wonder if the chase was about to get interesting. But then Rohit Bahl and Veer Vadgama stepped up. Bahl smashed 63 runs with plenty of boundaries and sixes, clearly enjoying showing off to the (slightly grumpy) crowd. Vadgama wasn’t about to be left behind, finishing unbeaten on 65 and calmly guiding the team home without breaking a sweat. The rest chipped in just enough to keep wickets in hand, while Bahl and Vadgama’s partnership saw runs flowing all around the ground. This is exactly how Town want their top order to take charge—not leaving the job to the tail-enders! Town finished comfortably with 7 wickets to spare and plenty of time left.

After the game, skipper Iqbal Anjum said, “Good to get a win. We’ve got three more cup finals coming up. Vadgama showed exactly why he’s the first name on the team sheet whenever he’s available — a complete all-round performance. Bahl also batted superbly, picking his moments to attack, which was really pleasing.”
