Match report
Northwood Town Bat First – Featuring Cameos, Chaos & Casual Collapse
Northwood Town CC began their innings with the confidence of a team that either knew something we didn’t, or had collectively forgotten how dangerous S Edge can be. Jesant Halai opened the batting and was dismissed for 8, in what we can only assume was a warm-up for his real performance: fielding.
Rohit Bahl arrived with a mission — smash and dash. With 7 boundaries and a six in just 30 balls, he looked like he was auditioning for IPL… until he was stumped so far down the wicket that he needed a taxi back to the crease. Rumours say he’s still out there looking for his bat.
Nischay Madhavan decided to be the adult in the room, anchoring the innings with a classy 63. Others batted around him, by which we mean: Deepak Raj forgot to move his bat (out for 5), Sangeet Patel was caught practicing his ballroom dancing mid-shot (out for 16), and Jay Patel took 48 balls to score 22, which might be a record for Most Patient Man in Middlesex.
Then came Iqbal Anjum, who played like he had a train to catch — smashing 40 off 34, including 2 sixes that nearly entered orbit. We don’t know what he had for breakfast, but it clearly wasn’t Weetabix. Keeran Sudagaran (21*) and Jack Daly (9*) then finished things off calmly, presumably because they didn’t trust the rest of the team with the bat anymore.
Extras, always the unsung hero, quietly added 16 runs — more than 3 actual players managed. Cheers, mate.
📝 Total: 250 for 9 (50 overs)
S Edge did most of the damage with 4 wickets, proving once again that naming your child “S. Edge” ensures they’ll grow up to torment batsmen and autocorrect systems alike.
Hatfield and Crusaders Reply – A Shakespearean Tragedy in 46.2 Overs
With 251 needed to win, Hatfield’s innings began… decently. P Singh came out swinging and smashed 65 runs, looking like he was about to chase this down single-handedly. Unfortunately, his teammates had other plans — specifically, the plan of “let’s just fall over like dominoes.”
B Golder and B Phillips both chipped in with 11s — symbolic? Perhaps. Effective? Not really.
Then came the collapse. M Jenning was bowled for a golden duck, which is also the name of the pub he ended up in later that evening. A Singh tried, scoring 11, but was caught trying to invent a new kind of reverse scoop… into the hands of the fielder.
M Collins added 28 before being stumped by Sangeet Patel, who was doing his best MS Dhoni impression behind the stumps. Z Sajid hit two nice shots and then hit the showers. S Edge looked threatening with 27 but forgot he wasn’t batting against his own team this time.
Then came the Madhavan Massacre: Nischay took 4 wickets in 9 overs like he was speed-running a “How to Bowl Out a Team” tutorial on YouTube. The tail folded faster than a lawn chair at a garden party, and Hatfield were all out for 189.
📝 Total: 189 all out (46.2 overs)
Four ducks, several dropped jaws, and one man (P Singh) wondering what more he had to do.
⭐️ Player of the Match: Nischay Madhavan – for scoring 63 runs and taking 4 wickets. Basically did everything except make the tea.
🧁 Final Thought:
Hatfield and Crusaders showed flashes of brilliance, but Northwood brought the full bakery: a solid top order, a tasty middle, and a bowling attack that iced the game. Plus, with at least five players now eligible to put "all-rounder" in their bios, this was a team performance that truly said: “We might not be perfect… but we’re definitely better than you today.”
Northwood Town win by 61 runs. Hatfield go home with bruised pride and probably half the tea.
