Match report Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Redbourn CC 3rd XI - Match Abandoned

Northwood Town’s Saturday 2nd XI were left frustrated after their fixture against Redbourn CC 3rd XI was abandoned, just as the innings was beginning to develop into a strong position. With rain around and conditions far from easy for batting, Northwood showed good discipline and application to reach 130 for 3, thanks largely to an excellent unbeaten partnership between Karan Rajani and Vishal Barad.

Northwood Town innings - 130 for 3

Northwood batted first in difficult conditions, with the damp weather making timing the ball and building rhythm far from straightforward. Redbourn made early inroads, removing Bijendra Vaghela for 11, Tushar Shah for 10, and Pradip Pandey for 14.

At that stage, Northwood needed calm heads and sensible batting, and Karan Rajani and Vishal Barad delivered exactly that.

The pair batted with real maturity, showing patience when the conditions demanded it and punishing the loose ball when the opportunity came. It was not an easy surface or an easy afternoon to bat on, but both players adapted well, kept the scoreboard moving, and slowly shifted the momentum back towards Northwood.

Karan Rajani played a composed and valuable innings of 34 not out, giving stability to the middle order and making sure Northwood did not lose control after the early wickets. His knock was exactly what the situation required, calm, measured, and important.

At the other end, Vishal Barad was excellent, finishing unbeaten on 44. He looked confident, positive, and well set, playing with good intent despite the difficult batting conditions. It was the kind of innings that had the feel of a bigger score coming, and it was a real shame the weather stopped him from pushing on towards a deserved half-century.

With 17 extras added, Northwood reached 130 for 3, with plenty of batting still to come. Hardik Nakum, Tejasvi Srivastava, Harish Janardhanan, Krunal Puwar, Viral Patel, and Priyan Ghoyal were all still waiting in the order, meaning Northwood were well placed to accelerate later in the innings.

Redbourn CC 3rd XI innings

Redbourn did not begin their innings, and with no bowling figures recorded, the match was officially abandoned before the second innings could take place.

Final word

A frustrating end to a promising afternoon for Northwood. After losing three early wickets, the unbeaten stand between Karan Rajani and Vishal Barad was the clear highlight of the match. In rainy, difficult batting conditions, both showed excellent control, patience, and judgement.

Karan’s 34 not out brought calm and stability, while Vishal’s fluent 44 not out gave the innings momentum and authority. Northwood were in a strong position at 130 for 3, and with wickets in hand, looked ready to build towards a very competitive total.

Sadly, the weather had the final say, but there were plenty of positives, especially the way Karan and Vishal handled tough conditions with such composure.
