It was a game where Northwood had plenty of batting positives, especially through Bijendra Vaghela, Mitesh Pondha, and some useful lower-order contributions, but Markyate’s reply was powerful and controlled, with Nasir Shah and Fezan Bukhari seeing them home.

Northwood Town innings - 224 for 9

Northwood batted first and lost Tushar Shah early for 7, but Bijendra Vaghela settled the innings with a very good knock of 68. He batted with confidence, kept the scoreboard moving, and gave Northwood the platform they needed to build a competitive total.

Pradip Pandey supported well with 18, but Northwood lost a few wickets just as the innings looked ready to accelerate. Harish Janardhanan made 4, while Karan Rajani and Hardik Nakum were both dismissed cheaply, leaving the middle order with work to do.

That is where Mitesh Pondha played a really important innings. His 40 gave Northwood momentum and helped push the score towards a strong total. He batted positively and made sure the good work from Bijendra did not go to waste.

There were also useful contributions later on. Vishal Barad made a valuable 23, while Viral Patel finished unbeaten on 20 and Tejasvi Srivastava remained 6 not out. Those runs at the end were important and helped Northwood reach 224 for 9, with 28 extras also contributing to the total.

For Markyate, Fezan Bukhari and Shoaib Shaukat both took 3 wickets, while Syed Waqar Bukhari picked up 2 wickets. Adal Bukhari also bowled tightly, finishing with 1 for 20 from 5 overs.

Markyate CC innings - 229 for 3 from 32.3 overs

Defending 224, Northwood needed early wickets, but Markyate started well. Shaukat Sheikh made 29 before Viral Patel got the breakthrough, with the catch taken by Viral himself.

Faisal Hussain then played well for 45, keeping Markyate ahead of the rate before Pradip Pandey removed him, thanks to a catch from Tushar Shah.

Northwood had another moment when Viral Patel struck again, bowling Adal Bukhari for 0. Viral was the standout bowler for Northwood, finishing with 2 for 18 from 4 overs, and he gave the team some control during his spell.

However, Markyate’s middle order took the game away. Fezan Bukhari made an unbeaten 52, while Nasir Shah played the decisive innings with 76 not out. Their partnership controlled the chase and made sure Markyate reached the target with wickets and overs to spare.

For Northwood, Vishal Barad bowled a tidy spell with 7 overs, 1 maiden, 38 runs, while Pradip Pandey picked up 1 for 20. But overall, Markyate’s batters were able to score quickly enough to stay in command of the chase.

Northwood positives

Despite the result, there were definitely positives to take.

Bijendra Vaghela’s 68 was the standout batting performance for Northwood. It was a strong, composed innings and gave the team a real base.

Mitesh Pondha’s 40 was also important, adding energy and momentum in the middle order. Lower down, Vishal Barad’s 23 and Viral Patel’s unbeaten 20 helped Northwood get to a very respectable total.

With the ball, Viral Patel was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 18, including two important wickets. Pradip Pandey also chipped in with a wicket and kept things reasonably controlled.

Final word

Northwood put up a good total, and on many days 224 for 9 would be enough to win a game. The batting effort had plenty of positives, especially from Bijendra, Mitesh, Vishal and Viral.

But credit to Markyate, who chased with confidence and were guided home by excellent unbeaten innings from Nasir Shah and Fezan Bukhari.

A disappointing result, but not a poor performance. Plenty to build on, especially with the bat, and a reminder that in cricket, even 224 can disappear quickly if the opposition gets going.
