Northwood Town Cricket Club News story

Tribute to Pat Byrne

29 Apr 2020

Its with great sadness that we have just heard of the passing away of one of our former Club Captains Pat Byrne.

Pat – who along with his brothers Paul, John and Ray – was part of the original Northwood Town start up in 1973 when the present club was formed following the amalgamation of Northwood Hills and Central Northwood cricket clubs having previously played for the latter for a number of years.

Between 1973 and 1980 Pat accumulated nearly 4,700 runs for club – principally as an opening batsman. In the days of regular Saturday and Sunday cricket Pat in the 1975 and 1976 seasons played in 48 and 46 games respectively which indicated his commitment to the club especially as he had been appointed Club Captain in 1975.

Whilst his brothers Paul and John continued playing after 1980 when Pat decided to hang up his boots, he continued to visit the Rec to watch the cricket played and attend social events at the club.

Pat along with his brothers were also great servants both on the playing / administration and management side of Northwood Football Club and Pat was latterly a Life President of the Club for which a separate obituary / tribute has been posted on their web site.
