Northwood Town Cricket Club are sad to announce the passing of Mick Spruels - a Vice President of the club for many years. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.
Gerry Pimm, a friend of Mick's and fellow NTCC Vice President, has very kindly put together the following tribute that fittingly shines a light on the generous and selfless nature of his character:
"Mick Spruels' recent sad death was the end of an era. Three Spruels brothers - Tim, John and Mick - were stalwarts of Northwood, mainly known within the Central Club. Tim and John died in recent years so Mick went off to live in the Isle of Wight where they loved their fishing. Many Town people won’t know Mick as he was (with John) in the main a Sunday evening drinker at the club - a little private club consisting of Martin, Dr Brent and a few others. But everyone was welcome.
Mick and John sat perched at the bar - always on the same stools, Mick nearest the fire exit. And they fed us with magical stories of their life and experiences. They also had many opinions of modern life!
Mick was in every attribute a larger than life character - and he was full of interest in Town life. What many don’t know is he always contributed when the club was on its knees - he never wanted publicity. He paid in for all fundraisers and did other little gestures like lending his gardening equipment for our working parties.
In reality, he was one of our longest term members - and a VP - even if few knew him. Mick was great fun, a terrific character and a generous individual. He will be missed but joins Tim and John in the Great Lake in the sky where the fish may be in fear. RIP Mick, the end of an era."
