Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN’S 1ST X1 started their season with a tough game at Bishop’s Stortford.
The hosts won the toss and elected to field, but Town skipper David Bushnell was forced to promote himself as an emergency opener with traffic problems leading to a reshuffle. Ironically it was only Bushnell who showed any sort of backbone as the hosts soon tore into Town’s fragile line up. A hungry bowling attack, combined with a large outfield and a two paced wicket were all elements for a lack of runs. Nevertheless Town will be disappointed that their batsmen were left lacking in application and whilst a couple of decisions clearly went the wrong way, a final score of 134 was woefully inadequate. Bushnell had led by example with a solid 71 but will be expecting more from his top order in future weeks.
To make any sort of inroads into the Stortford line up, Town would need to bowl with discipline and control. The hosts were able to take their time chasing a low total and whilst the bowling was adequate, too many loose deliveries allowed plenty of scope for Stortford to pick their shots. The four wickets were shared around but the hosts eased home by a six wicket margin from 37 overs.
