Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN suffered their third consecutive league game with an eight wicket defeat at Chipperfield Clarendon.
Winning the toss, skipper David Bushnell elected to bat and decided to take responsibility by opening himself up with Glenn Hodges. The pair started slowly, albeit solidly, before Hodges received his third lbw decision in a row and was dismissed for eight. Bushnell (37) and Richard Doling then built a second wicket partnership of 66 before Bushnell became Gary Wise's first wicket of five in the day. Doling (46) soon departed and was followed by Naresh Kumar as Town looked in trouble at 96-4. However Michael Lister (24) and Phil Carter (14) knuckled down to at least get Town towards batting points. Late cameo efforts from Jim Cotton (23) and Richard Robbins (25) enabled the visitors to finish their innings on a seemingly competitive 189-8.
However, the hosts set off like a steam train and Town were unable to reign the free-scoring in. No bowler could contain the batsmen and Bertwistie (58) in particular decided to hit the ball hard and fast. It only took the hosts 34 overs to claim victory by eight wickets, leaving Town with much to ponder.
