Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN were involved in a remarkable game, that yielded 548 runs, but still managed to lose by three wickets.

Town skipper David Bushnell won the toss and elected to bat. Naresh Kumar (17) showed the hosts' intentions with a quickfire 17 but it was Phil Carter and Glenn Hodges who were to provide the backbone of a solid batting performance in a partnership of 115. Hodges showed form with a stylish 63 whilst Carter rolled back the years as he crashed 74 with controlled aggression. Both were out in disappointing fashion but Shaun O'Neill (51*) and Jim Cotton (45*) once again stepped up to keep the momentum going. The pair put on 80 and Town declared on 273-5 after 49 overs.

Ordinarily such a high score would be seen as more than enough for victory, but St Albans set about the Town attack with only victory on their mind. A good wicket and lightning fast outfield certainly favoured the batsmen but Town will be disappointed with their bowling peformance and a couple of dropped sharp chances. They were not helped by Carter splitting the webbing of his hand and needing stiches, reducing Town to 10 men.

Curtis (79) batted with power for the visitors and only Bushnell (5-93) and O'Neill (2-39) showed any sort of form with the ball for Town as St Albans pulled off an impressive victory with 11 balls remaining and three wickets in hand.

Bushnell commented:
"It was disappointing to lose having shown some good form with the bat and posted what we thought was a competitive score. Credit to St Albans who produced a very good batting display but we need to show more control with the ball and in the field."
