Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN lost a close encounter to Hatfield by two wickets and will rue not building on a fourth wicket partnership of 123, a factor that in all probability cost them the match.
Batting first, Town started poorly falling to 9-2 and 42-3 before Glenn Hodges and Michael Lister took on the bowling attack with aplomb. Both players used a wide array of stylish shots as they plundered boundary after boundary in an excellent partnership of 123 to lift Town to 165-4. Lister was the first to depart for what had been an elegant knock of 68. Hodges looked set to score Town's first century of the season as he continued to pull off classy shots but the heat finally caught up with him as he nicked one behind, just 18 runs short of that landmark. Nevertheless, Town were set for a decent score on 174-5 but a combination of the Hatfield bowlers responding well and some desperately poor stroke play from the Town lower order saw the hosts struggle to even reach 200, a feat they just managed losing their last five wickets for just 26 runs.

Town opted to open with spin and took an early wicket but the visitors looked in fair control with Desai (58) in particular taking on the host bowlers. However, Desai's departure saw the visitors in a vulnerable state, particularly given they were down to ten men. With ten runs needed and just two wickets left, the game was finely poised but Hatfield managed to scrape home with just one wicket in hand. For Town, David Bushnell's combination of spin and pace returned him 4-52 off 17 overs, whilst Adam Hills took 2-10 late on.
