Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Sawbridgeworth III on Sat 26 Jun 2010 at 1.00 pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report Town's 2nd X1 tasted defeat again but would be heartened by an improved batting performance.

On being asked to bat first the Town had the worst possible start losing their first two wickets with only 7 runs on the board before a great 3rd wicket stand of 79 by Rao Ganisetti and Adam Hills put them in a good position. With Hills especially playing a very aggressive attacking innings against the Sawbridgeworth opening bowlers the opposition turned to their spin attack to halt the Towns progress.
This immediately reaped rewards when Ganisetti was out for 33 but Hills and Pradip Pandey continued the good work and Hills's excellent innings of 69 (5 x 6's 7x 4's) finally ended with a slightly dubious umpiring decision with the score on 139. Unfortunately the Town's middle order couldn't continue the good work against a opposition spin attack who with the very good O'Donovan were extracting considerable turn from a very responsive wicket.Taz Katira with 19 not out restored some hope with debutant Havan Patel 14 with a 9th wicket partnership of 25 before the Towns innings ended on 185 after 43.5 overs with Sawbridgeworths left arm spinner O'Donovan finishing with 7 for 48.

Skipper Dave Harding then turned to the pace attack of Hills and Mo Abbasi to combat a Sawbridgeworth side who in recent weeks had been continuously scoring 200 + innings. Despite good bowling the Town failed to captilise on several chances that came their way through unfortuanate fielding errors and with Sawbridgeworth at 85 for 2 the occasional spin of Ganisetti and Katira was introduced. This had the affect of stalling the oppositions progress and Katira especially bowled his leg breaks well in his new bowling role - being prepared to use flight to entice the opponents batsman into error but again the Town were not able to reap the benefit of the catching chances offered.
As a desperate gamble Abassi and Hills were brought back into the attack and despite picking up two wickets - one the result of a excellent running catch at long off by the "youthful" skipper, Sawbridgeworth ground out the winning runs for just the loss of 4 wkts after 53 overs.

The post match reflection of the game continues to see the Town maintaining the wonderful spirit in the team despite their lowly position in the league. The performances of the last 2 weeks against very in-form teams has shown that the Town have definate ability which needs to be harnessed throughout the team especially in the fielding application of several players to support the bowlers when for the second week running Mo Abassi put in a very good spell.

Final mention goes to Neil Cheeswright who in difficult circumstances had a great match with the gloves behind the wicket.
