Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost By 51 Runs

Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN suffered their second successive defeat but will feel hard done by as they lost their last wicket with just two balls remaining.
Skipper David Bushnell elected to field on winning the toss and his decision seemed immediately vindicated as he and Richard Doling (1-42) reduced the visitors to 3-2 and then 30-4. Old Owens though knuckled down and took advantage of Town's lack of options as they lapped up the loose deliveries from the change bowlers.

Despite Bushnell picking up an impressive 6-54 off 21 overs, the visitors declared on 222-8 after 50 overs. Town's injury problems were always going to be a disadvantage but their case wasnt helped when the returning Scott Walker was dismissed without a run on the board. At 39-3 the hosts needed to respond and Jim Cotton (25) and Richard Doling put on 47 for the fourth wicket before Bushnell (17) joined Doling and the pair added a further 35.

The start of the end came when Doling received a brute of a delivery from the Owens overseas star and was dismissed for a well worked 43. Aware of the lack of depth Bushnell decided attack was the only option but his tactic backfired as he soon followed Doling to the pavilion. Shaun O'Neill (12) battled maturely to see out a number of overs, but when the ninth wicket went
with 10 overs remaining, the game seemed up. Nevertheless, Abdul Firfire and Viraj Manek batted resolutely to defy the Owens attack. It's the hope that kills you though and just as Town looked set to pull off an unlikely draw, Firfire was bowled with a couple of balls remaining to give the game to the visitors.

Bushnell accepted the best team won and praised the better fielding commitment and energy from his players. He will be hoping
for quick recoveries from injuries before Town get cast too far adrift in the relegation zone.
