Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN produced their first win of the season with a hard fought 40 run victory over Chipperfield Clarendon.
Batting first, Town almost inevitably started poorly and were 10-2 before Michael Lister and Jim Cotton came together to knuckle down and put on 58 in a vital third wicket partnership. Once Lister (27) had gone, skipper David Bushnell (21)continued the good work and he and Cotton (32) managed to build a partnership of 36 and lift the visitors up to 116-5.
Once again though, a decent platform was soon to crumble and Town found themselves in trouble at 126-7.
Shameer Syed (20) and Abdul Firfire (9) battled out what would prove to be a crucial partnership of 32 and the visitors finished their innings on 167-9.

In reply, Chipperfield started well as Town bemoaned some poor luck and missed chances, but from a dominant position of 51 without loss, the hosts were hit by a superb bowling performance from Richard Doling and young spinner Suvin Mekwan. Wickets began tumbling regularly and Chipperfield fell from 64-2 to 104-8 in an astonishing period. Doling was to produce 6-52 off 20 overs, whilst Mekwan took 3-24 off 8.2 overs. The hosts had no reply
and were finally dismissed for 127.

Skipper Bushnell was delighted with the victory:
"We needed to knuckle down with the batting and the middle order did that to an extent. We were understrength again but the team spirit was excellent and we fielded and bowled tremendously well. Suvin showed great character
and looks a really excellent prospect"
