Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Greenwood Park on Sat 30 Apr 2011 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
Resilient batting partnerships provided some positive elements in a game that quickly slipped away in Town's 2nd XI seasons opener at home to Greenwood Park.
Losing the toss and being put into bat first it was Ed Johnson that settled in quickly at the top of the order and enjoyed some valuable time at the crease. A confidence boosting partnership of 46 between Pradip Pandey (who top scored with 27) and Sumeet Khetia (14) steadied the innings. When quick wickets fell in the middle to late order it was Abdul Firfire and Dave Harding that turned a meagre total into a respectable one and gave Town valuable batting points. Firfire punched the field with a measured innings of 20 whilst Harding entertained the balcony crowd with a swashbuckling 20 not out. With Mo Abassi pitching in with a valuable 8 not out at the end, Town had rallied from 109-8 to end with 167-9.
The total pleased Skipper Neil Cheesewright in his first game in charge.
Some ill-disciplined early bowling from Town presented Greenwood Park some easy runs in their response and they zoomed to 92 before their first wicket fell to the ever reliable Dave Harding. With 27 wides bowled and 5 dropped catches in the field, Town looked rusty at times. Khetia capped a good first day back taking a leg stump wicket whilst some hugely encouraging bowling by the mesmeric Suvin Mekwan claimed a futher wicket and returned figures of 1 for just 7 runs.
In truth, Greenwood eased to their target of 168-3 off just 35 overs, leaving Skipper Cheesewright much to contemplate upon in Towns 2nd XI future bowling selections for the season ahead.
